automating png creation from Adobe Illustrator

While I’ve been on the tech-architecture side of things for years, I’ve never had much experience with the graphics side of computing…I’m hoping that you guys can tell me what tools to use to:

a) automate the extraction and creation of png graphic (i.e.  image@4x.png) files from Adobe Illustrator

b) automate the creation and naming of the lower res versions of those same files – e.g. image@3x.png, image@2x, etc…

Thanks for all tips and tricks!!   And please don’t tell me we do this work manually in 2013??

Is it really possible I’m the only one with this problem??

Or is this community comprised of masochists :wink:

In any case, here is a script I’ve found to potentially address this problem

I’d appreciate any of you Illustrator experts giving an opinion as to whether this is likely to work without a lot of addl coding
