Available wifi networks detection

Hi,

I’m wanting a way to detect any wireless networks in the area and build a list of the SSID’s (along with signal strength, encryption type, etc if possible). I couldn’t see a way to do it with the current SDK, but am happy to be proven wrong - or pointed to an external library I could use to achieve this within my Corona app. If it’s not at all possible, I’d like to suggest this a future feature request (hopefully it’s straight forward).

If anyone has suggestions, please let me know

Hello again,

Is it possible to get a statement on this feature request from Walter or one of the staff on the possibility of this feature (or support for an external library) that will allow the detection of wireless networks? I just want to be able to call a function that returns a table of names and basic info on each network that the device can currently detect.

I made a similar request on the old feature request forum on December 16th (here: http://developer.coronalabs.com/forum/2011/12/15/ability-detect-available-wireless-networks) and never got a reply.

The ability to get this list is a core element in the game I am wanting to put together, so am not wanting to outlay money for a license until I can hear something on it.

Cheers. [import]uid: 110262 topic_id: 28882 reply_id: 117361[/import]

Hi Jesder,

I have just spoken with another member of the team and been advised that this is highly unlikely. Few people need this and a typical use is for wireless detector app (which looks for networks near you) - although this kind of app is banned by Apple. I need it to make my users life easier…so we have to code to the lowest common denominator which is Apple.  That stinks.  That is why most “important” projects I work on for govt and Fortune 500 shun Apple.
