Background audio stops upon app opening

Hey guys,
I was wondering if there is a way to prevent background audio that may be playing (such as Pandora) from stopping as soon as the app opens. Surely I don’t have to force my users into silence while they view my app, lol. Thanks,

I don’t think multitasking is supported in Corona. Also there’s no way to currently play iPod music as far as I know.

It looks like you either start creating some tunes of your own or it’s silence for your users  [import]uid: 10835 topic_id: 5330 reply_id: 17710[/import]

Ahh, I didn’t realize that an app needed to support multitasking to play iPod music that was already playing… guess that makes sense! Along that vein then, does anyone within Corona know if we’re going to see multitasking soon? [import]uid: 10942 topic_id: 5330 reply_id: 17716[/import]

Building429’s example of Pandora was probably a bad one.
Somewhere in the Apple iOS SDK there is the ability to toggle whether your app stops background music from playing. AFAIK this feature is not part of corona. I only hope its on the feature road-map… somewhere.

TL;DR: You don’t need multitasking for this, Corona just doesn’t support it yet. [import]uid: 7467 topic_id: 5330 reply_id: 20497[/import]

I’m not sure I see why my example of Pandora is a bad one. Ever since 4.0 (I don’t remember seeing it before, but I may be wrong), when Pandora plays music, it has the same capabilities as the music app does (being able to run in the background, supporting inline headset controls like pause, play and skip). It’s a little annoying that the user is forced to quit listening to whatever they were listening to before the entered the app…
So then I guess my question is: Carlos (or anyone else that might know), can we expect to see this feature in Corona anytime soon?? [import]uid: 10942 topic_id: 5330 reply_id: 20541[/import]

The user can unpause the music by pressing the play button on the headphones lead or by using the, er, taskbar (? - via the double-home-press)

No, I don’t think it’s good either.

Pandora in the background and pause/play via double home tap are iOS 4 or newer.

Not everybody has ‘upgraded’ to iOS4. [import]uid: 7467 topic_id: 5330 reply_id: 20609[/import]

Don’t get me wrong, I understand that that feature is 4.0 specific, I am just baffled as to why a feature like allowing background music to continue playing isn’t included in Corona! Maybe its just me, but I dislike going into an app and having my music paused (especially when it is the kind of app that doesn’t provide its own background music, like a utility). I think Ansca Mobile just hasn’t gotten to it yet.

The ‘to add’ feature list is extensive and (unfortunately for us) getting the major features done takes precedence to our ‘little’ detail.

I started a feature request topic at http://developer.anscamobile.com/forum/2011/02/04/keep-other-apps-sound-going-when-loading-corona-app
PS: No, its not just you, I found your topic trying to find the solution myself. [import]uid: 7467 topic_id: 5330 reply_id: 20647[/import]
