Are there any free level editors? I’ve seen some editors, like Inkscape and Gumbo, but I’m not sure if either would work for building platform games, where the level would be bigger than the screen, and is to be scrolled horizonally, kind of like Mario. So, would these work? Or should I just buy Lime? Which one is the best for this kind of thing? Preferably free [import]uid: 53195 topic_id: 9920 reply_id: 309920[/import]
Best free level editor is Tiled, free and cross-platform.
Great for platform games, RPGs, etc.

You can take a look at LevelHelper - check out the CORONA example project on http://levelhelper.wordpress.com - but this is not free and only for Mac.

You can use Gumbo to build levels that are larger than the screen. That’s what all the space outside the display area is for. You can make this space even larger by setting the canvas width and height in the top menu. [import]uid: 13180 topic_id: 9920 reply_id: 36270[/import]
I just discovered Gumbo and while it’s fairly limited in it’s capability it’s also incredibly easy to use. It’s wonderful for quickly mocking up a level that you can then fine tune however you wish.
+vote for Gumbo, it’s sexy as all hell. [import]uid: 7705 topic_id: 9920 reply_id: 38081[/import]
Note that Lime technically isn’t a level editor. It’s a Corona library for using levels from Tiled. [import]uid: 12108 topic_id: 9920 reply_id: 38096[/import]
I can highly recommend LevelHelper and SpriteHelper.
Their very valuable tools, and the creator gives amazing support!

Hey, just found this thread and was going to say that yes technically Lime isn’t a level editor. The plan is that once I get it out of Beta, i.e. performance is fixed, I will build a level editor around it.
How does this name sound?

However if anyone is interested in using Tiled without Lime please do contact me at graham@grahamranson.co.uk and I will help you work with the Tiled format if you want. [import]uid: 5833 topic_id: 9920 reply_id: 38539[/import]
