Best image type?

Whats the best image extension type? Can corona work with vector images?

I havent got much into art, most of my code was random newRect or circles or whatever to test out code. My question is whats the best possible quality I can get if i dont care about resources? Turning a stunning vector graphic to something 20x20 pixelated can look so shitty. Does corona support loading something from illustrator/inkscape? what file type would that be etc, any help on this subject would be very much appreciated. thanks in advance.
