Box2D + Android = failure -- does anyone have a workaround?

I’ve been having trouble with Android builds on my Kindle Fire and Nook.  After some research it seems that Android isn’t very good at working with Box2D - what a shame!

I figure someone must have a workaround for this.  Care to share?

I’m working on a Mac and building with the stable build and daily builds.
