Build says I cannot open b/c not supported on this type of Mac

I am just trying out Corona for the first time today. I am a current iOS game developer using Unity3D so have done lots of builds with XCode before.

I just downloaded the most recent version of Corona SDK. I am running XCode 4.3.2 and Lion OS X ver 10.7.4 on a MacMini purchased 1 year ago.

Corona successfully runs the build but when I look at the icon for the build on my desktop, it has a circle with line through it and when I tap on it, it says “You can’t open the application [NAME] because it is not supported on this type of Mac.” This same thing happened when building a sample project from the Corona samples and from a new simple text project I created.

I should be able to build to this Mac but maybe this is a software problem?

Please help. [import]uid: 181952 topic_id: 31499 reply_id: 331499[/import]

Hello,
Welcome to Corona! Here’s the answer to your question: you can’t actually run the compiled build as a stand-alone app. You can either A) run/test the project in the Corona Simulator, or B) install the build file onto an actual mobile device, and then only if you’ve set up the proper AdHoc provisioning and distribution profiles in your Apple Developer account. Since you’ve used Unity and Xcode before, I’m sure all of that is already established.

So basically, in Corona, you test in the Simulator, and you build for the device itself, not your Mac.

I think you can also run an app in the Xcode Simulator, but I don’t use that method and I’m not really qualified to advise how it’s done or what other setup might be involved.

Does that help?

Hello and Thank you, Brent!

Your answer helped in that I was expecting to open the build in Xcode like I would with a Unity build. I did not realize that the build from Corona was meant to go directly onto my device. I had tried before to put the app on my device but it did not work. I just tried a different method and it finally added the app to my device.
