Building an indie game studio - year one

OK, so first let me introduce our team,
We are three co-founders of an indie game studio – Remarkable Games.
We started our own business a year ago, with no external funding and the obvious intention to turn profitable in the near future (before we exhaust all our personal savings…)

We managed to build 6 corona based games in the last year. if you are interested in reading about our experience here is the link of the full blog post of our story:

The blog post was a great read, I think you are not alone in your story, the start is always hard.
The good thing is you are hanging in there and still moving forward.

@gury.traub
how you got into FREE APP Day? [import]uid: 86417 topic_id: 28688 reply_id: 115661[/import]

Her martin,
Actually we did not do anything proactively. Amazon sent us an email suggesting the FAD promotion for one of our apps (What’s Different)

Nicely done! [import]uid: 19626 topic_id: 28688 reply_id: 115663[/import]

i want that too;( [import]uid: 86417 topic_id: 28688 reply_id: 115664[/import]

BTW,
In their revamped site they have a check box that you can mark to signify you would like to participate in the FAD promotion.

I guess some of our luck was due to the fact we were early adopters of the amazon market.

Hey guys, I read your post on your blog. It is really awesome that you guys keep going and never think about giving up. I’m still new to game development but I’m half way through a game I am creating for the iPhone and the Android market. I guess I am starting out just like you guys with a dream of having an indie studio. I am currently working by myself but I have taught myself how to use a number of 3d programs to use for my game and it is becoming a real success. My cousin was going to create the art but she’s taking way too long and doing things on her own so I gave up on her. That’s when I decided to teach myself how to use 3D programs. The only difference between us is that I am working full time for a big company and have very little time on weekdays and all day on weekends to work on my game. I have so much ideas and so many things that I want to accomplish for my game but it’s hard, especially working full time mid day shift. I just want to say good luck and hang on tight! The games Rovio released before Angry Birds had failed to put their name out there until they released Angry Birds. So keep on trying and never give up! @neilw711, thanks for the warm wishes!

We do not plan to give up anytime soon

Regarding your situation, it’s really awesome you are able to mix a steady job and your dream because it reduces your risk to almost zero…

I did try doing the same myself for a few months but it was really too much (ask my wife ;))
It’s also awesome you manage to do the graphics yourself! I wish I had any sort of talent in that area but I’m very lame

Hope you succeed and your dream becomes a reality!

A really awesome read, thanks for sharing! I think making 6 games in a year is really, really impressive. Nicely done!

Sweet of you to say, thank you  I commented on the article itself too though it’s awaiting moderation currently  [import]uid: 52491 topic_id: 28688 reply_id: 116208[/import]

Great read guys!

I am new to game development, doing my first game and have similar problems (quit steady job, living for savings, finishing app that is too ambitious for one unexperienced person etc)

I guess I will start blogging as these kind of stories are quite entertaining

Keep going guys and good luck!

Pursuing our dreams, that’s what we all do I guess!

Best,
Patsky - Patryk K.
