Building apps from device

Hello all,

Doing a research for my investigations, I found an app that I think is quite interesting, Codea (www.codea.io).

It’s not my goal to make any advertisement here, my point is to encourage Corona to have something similar, if possible.

For those who does not know that tool, is an App that allows to develop applications on their own sandbox and using the device.

Sounds impressive. Unfortunately, I’ve just discovered and I didn’t test it yet(I will soon for sure) but I was just wondering why Corona, with the intensive amount of followers that it has, does not give us that option too.

My goal here is to open a nice conversation to know if looks as interesting for others as it looks for me… Now we have iPad Pro on the market… developing with it will be a pleasure

I’m looking forward to read your comments!

Keep coding!

I did really, and I think is a nice initiative but… I think on this case, Codea is more complete. An if you check the installation guide it takes far more steps than just downloading an app

Aren’t you agree?

Well… yesterday I was testing this app a little bit and I must recognise that they made an impressive work.

Is not only that they are able to publish their works on a device, it’s also that the “editor” is quite nice and friendly, being able to see the colors, for example, that you’re applying in a nice “preview” and be able to change it nicely.

My point on this is that Corona is an impressive SDK and I really love it but maybe, apart of giving more support to new devices, like they are giving now, a few improvements can be done to the editor or, maybe have their own (instead of Sublime).

Also, Codea, permits the use of OpenGL making possible 3D.

I do not know how Corona is “hardware accelerated” and I know that is designed to 2D but… hey! there is always room for improvement!

What are your thoughts about?

I think I’m a bit biased, as the things I want from Corona are, in no particular order:

  • Plugin store with revenue-generating feature
  • Finalized, fully supported Win32/OSX app builds
  • Finalized, fully supported tvOS app builds
  • Finalized, fully supported HTML5 app builds
  • Public FusePowered ad network integration

IMO the above five things are enough to keep Corona busy for the next 15-24 months. I’m not saying that these are the be-all-end-all for what Corona should focus on, but they are all items that are being addressed  right now , and all are objectives that, when complete, will allow me to use Corona for even more projects.

FWIW you can post a feature request and try to stump for votes, to allow it to get the attention of Corona engineers:

Corona SDK is OpenGL based using hardware acceleration. What we don’t support is a 3D engine.

Hehehe ok, I will @Alex@Panc I’m sure there are other things that are more important! I was trying to notice that there are other developers doing a great job as well and some things that they made are really good and maybe can be implemented on Corona

Thanks Rob, I read it yesterday as well!

Honestly I would like more to have an IDE like Codea (with some goodies like being able to see the color or the font that is applied) than the 3D part  Anyway, 3D is always welcome!

Thanks both for your replies!
