Can I use TestFlight if I'm a Corona trial user?

I’m a slow, very part-time developer, but I’d like to test the core concepts and game-play as I go to make sure I’m building something that’s going to be fun, replayable, etc.

I finally got to the point where I have something usable, so dropped down the $100 fee to Apple to I can get provisions stuff taken care of. Everything seems fine uploading to TestFlight, but for some reason no one, including me, can download it–we’re all part of the provision and I see them as “Permitted” in TestFlight. However, everyone gets the “This device cannot install this build” message when going to the download link on our devices.

My assumption is that it has something to do with me just being a test user of Corona.

Can I, as a non-subscribing user of Corona, successfully use TestFlight to beta test my app?

If not, are there other options I have have others test my (very) unfinished app?

Since I likely have 6+ months of development, I’d rather not have to pay another $200 until I’m even somewhat close to releasing?

[Please don’t get me wrong. I have no problem paying $350 to Ansca for the awesome product/service they provide, but I’d prefer to it be a cost of doing business instead of a cost of MIGHT be doing business :)]

Many, many thanks,

That’s a good question and I can’t answer it outright as I haven’t used TestFlight a whole lot.

I always build using a distribution certificate and provisioning profile (adhoc) from Apple which you need to be a licensed Corona developer to do, however I believe you can still do adhoc dev builds as a test user.

One potential way to test this would be to build using dev cert and adhoc provisioning to a device and ensure it installs fine - if it does you know you are set up correctly and in theory TestFlight should work - though again I’m not an expert.

I hope someone with a little more experience using TestFlight can give you a straight up answer, or perhaps a look at their docs would clarify? (I am not sure if you have already looked here or not.) - but hopefully in the meantime this gives you something to do

Thanks for your reply, Peach.

The issue seems to be that TestFlight requires an ad hoc build and that Corona doesn’t allow for an ad hoc build as a test user.

Given that we get the “Corona SDK Trial” popup at the beginning of builds, which is totally fine–it doesn’t affect testing at all–I’m not quite sure why we can’t do ad hoc builds.

Any one else have more info?
