Capturing gameplay video

What do you guys use to capture your gameplay video? I’ve tried running the game in PC/Mac and capture it there but the framerate won’t look as good as if it’s played on the device itself.

I know some of you guys already made your own gameplay video and they look sweet so please share some tricks

Really?
I find things run deceptively better in the simulator on my 2.2Mhz macbook.

Some folk have recommended filming the device in optimal lighting.
I recently discovered that Quicktime Player on the Mac can do a screen recording.
And an app called PhoneFinger can turn the mouse pointer into a finger if you want to show what the user is doing.

I use Fraps, always the best quality and HD recording. It’s only for PC, so I usually transfer my projects ove to my PC then start the recording.

the Reflection app is quite ok with friendly and helpful support, otherwise I am using Screeny app, it is very basic but it works. [import]uid: 109677 topic_id: 25653 reply_id: 103773[/import]

Thanks for the replies guys,
I tried using something similar to (free version) screenium/fraps and record the gameplay from my desktop screen but somehow the framerate of the movie is always wrong.

If you noticed the movie shows the app runs at turbo speed  eventhough it’s not how it’s supposed to be. I’m just don’t feel like buying a piece of software and then find out that it can’t be used.

But thanks for the links guys I’ll do my homework now and check each one of them

I also give a +1 for screenium!
You can set the framerate of your capture there and I never had problems at all.

btw: uploading 60fps videos to YouTube is not possible in the moment (it IS possible, but YT will recode it to 30fps). But there’s a workaround using experimental html5 features:

  • capture video in 60fps
  • slow the video down to half speed (i.e. 30fps)
  • upload to YT
  • go to http://www.youtube.com/html5 and unlock html5-mode
  • set the video to run in 2x speed
  • voilà: a 60fps video
