I also needed a test device and just picked up a brand new 3.2" Android V2.3.5 phone for £50. What a bargain (I thought)! I upgraded my Corona license and built some simple apps but they wouldn’t run on the phone. After over a day of testing and reading various forums, it turns out that it wasn’t working because Corona doesn’t support ARMv6 processors but requires ARMv7, and mine was ARMv6.
It seems that many recently-released Android phones are still using ARMv6 and as I’m guessing that a large part of Android’s growth is from lower-cost phones, where ARMv6 is common, I guess this cuts out a large part of the Android market to me. I’m not sure I would have upgraded my license to support Android if I had realised this before.
So I’m restarting my search for a cheap ARMv7 test device… Any suggestions anyone? Also, does anyone want to buy a lovely as-new-condition ARMv6 phone?
