Chinese app number

Hi all,

Has anyone here tried getting Chinese app number (to get to their market)?

Is number required for already released apps, that will be updated?
Or only for the NEW apps.

Many thanks.
Ivan

Hi Ivan,

Do you mean the Android “Version Code” that’s specified here?

https://docs.coronalabs.com/guide/distribution/androidBuild/index.html#build-process

If not, I’m unsure what you mean by “Chinese app number” and which market you’re referring to.

Brent

Hi Brent,

Sorry for not being precise.

I am talking about the number APPLE requires when you submit NEW app for review?

This news was published during last spring on the iTunes connect:

Game Licenses in China Chinese law now requires online games to secure an approval number from the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film, and Television. You can enter your game’s approval number and date in the Notes field of the App Review Information section. To learn more, view the full text of the regulation.

I too have seen that in iTunes Connect and ignored it. Apple have still been allowing my updates to go through (aside from the usual reviewer inconsistent interpretations of the “guidelines” / “commandments!”).

Still, it appears the problem is monetising the downloads from China (and Japan). Despite my 10 x increase in downloads lately (largely from China and Japan), I have not had an increase in revenue or Chartboost portal bootups! :frowning: Ouch!

And what about NEW apps?

Can we submit it without the “number”?

Good question - I haven’t uploaded a new app in a while. Hopefully someone else will chime in…

Hi guys,

Anyone here knows what about NEW apps?

Thanks.

Playing devil’s advocate - what new apps? Almost no one is making any money. Apple are telling many developers to stop spamming and/or put everything into a container app.

The circus is about to leave town. Not everyone is in this for the money - I get that. But for those that are - it’s time to move on!

What do you mean by this: “put everything into a container app.” ?

Move on to what for example?  :D  ;)

I’m certainly not trying to be deliberately inflammatory.

Sad that there’s quite a lot of it about.

Ok
Thanks!

So these guys accounts have been suspended due to:

  • suspicion in fake reviews
  • suspicion in copy-cat
  • some other violations… I didnt catch really

I know you cant make much from App developing these days… but you can hope

New POKEMON GO is always possible
Good luck!

@hogletpie: Painting such a dark picture when it’s just Apple we’re talking about. Android is dominating the app market right now, and set to exceed revenues from the apple appstore this year.

A lot of businesses I have spoken with are focusing more on android as a platform because the download numbers have really skyrocketed over the last year. I think over the next few years, they will take over a majority of the marketshare compared to Apple. Just wait.

While those guidelines are affecting a lot of indies, Apple is not the only Appstore you can make money. Progressive Web Apps are also becoming more mainstream.

The only constant in this industry is change. The circumstances are worse than what they were, but it’s certainly not the end of the world

This thread has been hijacked.

Does anyone know the answer to Ivan’s original question re: App number when submitting apps to Apple for Chinese market?

I submitted my new app on Nov 15. I didn’t have a china number and don’t know how to get it. Not only did Apple approved it without a number, but they featured it in China. The result was that I got a few dozen China installs on November 16.
