Choosing Corona Analytics or Corona Cloud Analytics - What's the Story?

I’d like to find out more about the difference between Corona Cloud Analytics and Corona (Launchpad) Analytics.  There seems to be very little info about the difference or how Cloud Analytics works.  Some questions:

  1. Performance - which choice will be “faster” from a performance standpoint?

  2. Cost - Launchpad is free.  The free version of Cloud gives you “7” free for analytics it says.  What does that mean?

  3. Identifiers - what does each analytics system use to identify the user?  UDID?

  4. Any other considerations?

Thanks!

Hi @natelipscomb,

Have you checked out the FAQs on Analytics? They’re located here (just scroll down a bit on that page):

http://www.coronalabs.com/resources/frequently-asked-questions/

Also, between the two Analytics, Cloud is (logically) more “Cloud-oriented”. Here’s a list of the metrics that are available as part of the Corona SDK Analytics :

  • Number of sessions (total)
  • Number of sessions per platform
  • Number of sessions by location (country)
  • Session Lengths
  • Number of Users/Devices (unique)

And here’s a list of the metrics that are available as part of the Corona Cloud Analytics :

  • Monthly Active Users
  • Total Users
  • Push Notifications (per platform)
  • Multiplayer matches created
  • Multiplayer friend invites
  • Multiplayer random invites
  • Multiplayer moves submitted
  • Average Multiplayer match length
  • High Scores submitted
  • Achievements unlocked
  • Social Facebook Posts
  • Social Twitter Posts
  • News articles read
  • “Chats” started
  • Chat messages sent

Just be aware that additions or possible subtractions might occur in the future, as deemed necessary or appropriate.

Hope this helps,

Brent

Thanks for the response, Brent.  I have reviewed the FAQ but it doesn’t address any of these three questions from my post above:

  1. Performance - which choice will be “faster” from a performance standpoint?

  1. Cost - Launchpad is free.  The free version of Cloud gives you “7” free for analytics it says.  What does that mean?

  1. Identifiers - what does each analytics system use to identify the user?  UDID?

Also, is there a Cloud-specific FAQ or page with more details?  There is very little documentation on the Cloud side, especially with respect to analytics.  Thanks!

Could I *please* get an answer to these questions?  Especially #3, about the identifier used for Corona SDK analytics?

These are basic questions that I can’t find the answer for anywhere.

We have replaced the UDID with an MD5 hash of the MAC address.

The following was posted on another thread here on the forum. Some more insight…

Thanks for the response, Rob.  Do you have any info on the performance overhead (fps, etc.) of using Corona analytics?

Hi,

I can answer at least the Corona Cloud side of things.

In regards to performance, with Corona Cloud you actually don’t need to send anything from your client unless its a custom event.

As the features run on our servers, we already have the analytics data for you, so we can give you very granular info on the features you are using and how they are being used.

On cost, the Starter plan basically shows the latest 7 days of analytics.

Hope that helps.

Thanks
