Compile an application to be executed in Linux

Hi Guys,

Never did nothing in Lua but after finding the Corona project I’m willing to learn it and adopt it. The power Corona gives me justifies all that.

I’ve a company that’s working for the last 4 years on an application that runs on Linux only. I’m evaluating solutions that could allow us to replace our current technology and Corona seams by far one of the best ones.

The problem I see is that it can generates windows, ios, osx, and android but, not linux :frowning:

Since Lua is crossplatform, if I develop a project in my OSX would I be able to run it on a linux box?

Thanks a lot for the help.

Unless you know of a way to run regular OS X apps on Linux that I’m unaware of, then no, you cannot run OS X apps.

Hi there,

I know you can’t run compiled OSX apps on Linux :slight_smile:

I was just trying to know if the code I write in Corona con be compiled on a Linux box (even if the Corona applications only run on OSX or Windows).

That way, I could develop on my OSX machine and when needed, copy the source code to a Linux box and compile it with a lua compiler.

Thanks.

@mmanso,

There is no native version of the Corona Simulator for Linux.  You’d have to experiment with WINEor something like it.

We are a small engineering team. Building and supporting additional platforms is very expensive. We had declined this before our acquisition by Perk because it simply wasn’t going to happen. Perk is more receptive to the idea, but its still not on any level of serious discussion. I’m not going to remove the declined flag because we would rather you use your votes on things that have a much better chance of happening. However if you wish to make a statement, you can still vote on it:

It’s not an absolute No, but you only have 15 votes.

That’s a shame… Like I saw, my company has a product with 5 years old that runs on Linux (and we’ve a good marketshare in our country) but we’re trying to find the best platform to have it on Android, Linux and Windows.

I thought this could be the perfect solution but I’ll have to move to a different route.

Thanks a lot for the answers.
