Coop Catch for iOS

This is my first iOS game and also the first game I’ve built using Corona. It has been submitted for review but since it’s my first App Store submission, I’m sure I will have to fix things.

It plays similar to the old Atari 2600 game Kaboom. Here’s a link to a YouTube video of the game.

Thanks,

@mnewman,

Many congrats about your 1st game!
Very well done in my opinion.

I love the “UI” you have made there. The “mini-popups” are very nice together their transition effects.

PS: But there is one thing I did not like that was the "chickens sound. Although I saw that is possible to "mute" the game I think that some kind of music playing would be nice instead of the chickens sound only.
Anyway, Congrats!

Cheers,

Congrats on your first Corona made app!

I would agree some light background music could be good with the chicken sound but either way, looks good!

Thanks for the suggestion. I added some quiet background music during the game and submitted a new binary.

Great first game!

I wonder if you would mind maybe answering a question I have. I have wanted to do a ‘remake’ or ‘retro’ type game from the 80’s, but didn’t know what steps might be needed to feel comfortable that I am not infringing upon the old design and get myself into any kind of squable with Atari, Coleco, or Inteliviision the big game makers back then.

Was there anything you discovered when researching wether to do a remake of a known atari game? I don’t remember that game, so I am not sure how closely you matched it in appearence or gameplay or even the title. If you don’t mind, can you share what if any thing you may have learned about the legal issues of re-doing a retro type game like that.

Thanks much! [import]uid: 35148 topic_id: 25434 reply_id: 102966[/import]

I’m definitely not an expert on it but I would think as long as you don’t infringe on any of their trademarks (characters, graphics, name) you should be ok.

The only thing my game has in common with Kaboom on the Atari 2600 is that something is being dropped and you have to catch it. You can find videos of the original game on Youtube if you search for “Atari 2600 kaboom”. In their game, a guy in a mask and prison outfit is dropping bombs that you catch in buckets of water.

Thanks Mark! Yes, I see how yours is diferent. Mine is more similar to the original game I am creating mine after, so I will have to dig deeper to see what I can and can’t do on mine. [import]uid: 35148 topic_id: 25434 reply_id: 103055[/import]
