Was able to duplicate this on Mac OS and Win8. Open the Corona Simulator, Create a New Project, Select the “Physics Based Game” and check “Sideways” for the default Orientation. Build it for Android and transfer it to a Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus using ADB. Open the app once and press the home button after it has loaded. Open the app again and press the home button. The app will crash this time. The error in the log cat says "java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Make sure the SurfaceView or associated SurfaceHolder has a valid Surface.
