Corona Emitter Example - Can we add collisions to those particles?

Hi,

I want to follow the Corona Emitter example and incorporate it into my game.  I will use it to mimic some periodic volcanic/lava eruptions as one of the many obstacles of the player on some levels.  

I want those particles to detect collision with the ship so I can inflict damage accordingly.  Can it be done?
