Is there an introductory book or manual available that takes the new user through the process of developing with Corona? Barring that, is there an API reference in PDF or epub format? I’d love to be able to fire up the iPad and study, and I tend to learn better with paper (or, er, e-paper) reference in front of me than by videos, etc.

Yup, Learning Lua with Corona is a stretch at the moment!

It’s a little old though.

In all seriousness, PP you are a HUGE inspiration to countless people. The reason this is is not a new one. You see, mind sets come in all shapes and form but the intellectual one is usually guarded by a wall called ego.
A few years ago, a very smart man (Linus Torvalds) made an operating system that is (or could have been) superior to everything that was available then but the programers and advanced users wanted us little newcomers to learn the ropes.
RTFM (Read the friendly manual) was an often used reply so fast forward ten years … Linux has a tiny market share …
Here is where YOU, Queen of Corona come in:
IF you feed us little people who have an artists mind able to produce strong visual content, than your eBook will become our Bible effectively opening the gates to each and every graphics designer who can not afford a programmer.
If I was as good looking as you, here is what I would do:
Document a little “Hellp Peach Pellen” project that teaches us how to:
– add text on the screen where we want it to display x / y coordinates
– format that text further
– add an image as well as background image (which was already done)
– add a new scene
– add a button with event listeners to navigate
– add sound to a button (so we can make little instrument
– show hide an image
– show hide an image by pressing a button
– move an image by pressing a button
– animate an image by pressing other buttons
publish as if it was an actual app
THAT would be enough to get a ton of people started!
That would be enough to enable a ton of people to look at the more complicated samples that already exist!
That would be the kind of info that those living on a salad diet could digest (but the gardeners would hate you for - don’t worry, Canada has great hiding places)

First up - thank you, but I doubt Carlos would hire someone who frequently uses workarounds because they still aren’t a Pro with Lua (I can make things work, which is what counts, but in my own apps I frequently do “odd” things. Still a lot to learn, only been at this 3 months!)
On the other hand, if you get rich and want to hire me so that I can live in your country, I’d totally make apps for you all day at minimum wage They might not all be elegant, but they’d work
Seriously though, thank you for the kind words - I do hope that I inspire people, I try to - Corona inspires me and I would love it if I could help others get into it and experience what I feel when I use Corona

At the end of the day it sucks to be poor but when you are in a situation like I am, you learn to get by and ultimately, while depressing at times, poverty can also inspire a person to do great things - if I wasn’t desperate for money I never would have gotten into making apps because I wouldn’t have been looking for new ways to (possibly) make money.

So if I make money (to hire you), it would mean that I’ve learned Corona which means that the whole reason to pay you in the first place … it’s complicated and the only thing I am learning from this is that Carlos and complicated both start with a c! LOL
As far as your book goes, YES!
Make the app (there might be other tools out there which let you do a pdf > ePup and save you a bit of time!

You do like your letters (Are you at all Obsessive Compulsive? I only ask as I am a bit and I see similarities too, just in numbers not letters - but I am right brained and you, I imagine, would be left brained :))
Now as to the sound - this is odd - no one else has said that, so I’m really not sure. I know this sounds silly, but your sound is turned on, right? Are you getting any errors? (To see if there are errors launch Corona using “Corona Terminal” in it’s folder then try making the sound play.)
I assume it was both sounds, the music and the “ouch” sound - or just the “ouch”? (Make sure when you open the sound files they play on your actual computer too please, just out of interest!)
Let me know - we’ll work it out (I don’t believe the trial version has any limitation besides not being able to build for a device/the app store.)
I will have a look into the eBook thing sometime - it might attract some new people to Corona which is what I want to do

Unfortunately, I am in the finishing stages of a little iphone app but I will let you know tomorrow if I wasn’t able to get sound to work.

Hey, sorry to bug you about sound … but ether the lack of coffee is getting to me or my mac is on strike or my bose speakers are tired of playing for me … something is wrong.
I’ve started Corona Terminal (as you suggested) and did everything by the book. Sometimes I get a sound when I click on your pic, but not all the times. Often it just does not “peep” at all.
I suppose I will have to investigate why that is …
