Hello Corona Developers and Staff,
I decided to return to the forums to make this final post since Corona Labs has always been held near and dear to my heart. I first learned about Corona SDK back in 2010 and attended a meetup in person to learn more about their SDK. I had always dreamed of making a video game, and Corona was easy enough that I was able to do it all by myself at 16 years old. I had no coding experience, and I remember spending everyday after school on these forums self teaching myself how to make games back in the day. The community was amazing, I remember meeting Walter and Carlos at the Ansca Mobile offices. The entire community was so supportive, and I used to meetup with developers every weekend to code games together where we would all use Corona to build and publish our games.
A year into developing with Corona, I had released a few games, was making a good amount of money doing so, and ended up paying my way through college by being a Corona Developer. The other Corona developers I would work with on the weekends also were making good money as well! It was such a supportive community, and we all had so much success back when mobile was not oversaturated with applications.
Eventually in 2014, I switched over to Unity since they supported console builds and WebGL, and by that time I was experienced enough to navigate to a new game engine.
Now I’m working full time in San Francisco, and I have a full time developer job. If it wasn’t for this community, people like Carlos and Walter, and the amazing Corona development community, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Thank you everyone for your support, and I’m glad we were able to achieve success and go on this journey together.
I now host a monthly game development community in SF to support game developers in learning new software and product releases coming out in the game dev world, it’s free to attend so make sure to come out, I’ve attached a screenshot below: https://www.meetup.com/Monthly-SF-Game-Development-Community/
