Corona Pro Plugins

Hello,

So is there going to be a way for Enterprise users to turn their plugins into regular plugins for Corona Pro users?

A while ago you guys said that that might be a feature, and that there might even be a marketplace where users can buy/sell plugins.

It would be really cool if you could add support for that, and maybe make the plugins made by Enterprise users only available for Corona Pro users so there is no conflict about making “premium” plugins available for Starter subscriptions.

I agree. Every other leading game engines are providing a marketplace: Unity3D and Lanica/Platino (with a former Corona founder in the team).

+1 the biggest thing holding Corona back is the lack of marketplace for people to create plugins etc.

Just started working on plugin for Parse. It’s nontrivial for sure. I hope we can get a marketplace soon b/c I’m not interested in giving this away for free

best,

Jen

Fully agree on all that is said here. The plugin market is a huge growth potential for both Corona Labs and its customers. This is a perfect example of a win-win outcome. Not sure why it has not happened so far but I sure hope it happens soon.

Let me see where we are on this.

It was suppose to be released over a year ago, but I believe it is no longer “in the plan” for some reason.  Lack of third party services is a big issue for Corona and not an issue for any other SDK as they already have one.

This time last year, our goal was go to get Corona plugin enabled.  We did that.  The plugin system was put in place.  We can add 3rd party plugins in fairly easily and we’ve deployed quite a few.   What we don’t have in place is a Market place where you can sell your plugins yet.  I know it’s still on our agenda to do and we are working on it.  Its not going as fast as we would like.  I’ve asked the team for an update, but it is the weekend and I don’t expect an answer until next week.

I don’t have the expertise to build plugins so Enterprise is not even an option for me.  But I would gladly pay for extra functionality (like Tapjoy) via a Plugin marketplace.  A marketplace seems like such a win-win-win scenario that has the potential to increase Corona users on all tiers I’m surprised to hear it has been relegated to a back burner.

On a side note, it would be nice to get some info as to what actually is on the front burner.  Communication from the Lab on this front has been pretty silent lately.  Apparently, even some Staff aren’t always clued in

Thanks for all the support guys.

@Rob To get started we would at least like to see a way for Enterprise users to actually make their plugins available for other tiers. Marketplace could come later, and it can even be just a forum where users can advertise/contact other people.

+1000 This would be awesome to have.

Any updates?

Hi guys. This is still important for us, but lots of other stuff going on that is high priority as well. But it’s our goal to have a plugin marketplace as soon as possible.

Hi David, great to hear the commitment is still there. As for the prioritization, I bet most of us (customers) would prioritize the Plug-in Market over a number of things that Corona Labs delivered over the last year. I think there is a strong disconnect between what is prioritized by Corona Labs and what the customer base actually needs. It would be wonderful if you were to run an open survey to get this feedback on an ongoing basis and at least make an effort to align. Thank you.

Case in point… Bam! Corona Cards…

I knew you would be all over this ksan

Perhaps I should be happy. Now I can use Xamarin, which has an excellent Plug-in Market and yet keep leveraging my couple years worth of Corona SDK experience. Hmmm, I think you just made it easier for your customers to jump ship. Think about it.

If you are better suited to use another tool, but can somehow keep on using Corona, I’m happy

If Corona Labs simply delivered the Plug-in Market I would not even need to be looking at other tools.

The reason why the Plug-In Market is so crucial is that, if it existed, it would allow 3rd parties to extend Corona SDK and/or offer paid services to deliver things like stable widgets, native UI elements, Bluetooth integration etc etc. The list is endless. This would make Corona SDK the be it all, do it all tool for me and many alike.

Core Corona SDK is excellent and we are all happy with it and hence why we stick around. We just need it to be more extensible. Please serve our needs first before going on new adventures, over and over. Thanks for listening to your [current] customers.
