Corona SDK is now Free!

@David

I congratulate CoronaLabs for this decision, however I feel like existing Enterprise users don’t really get much out of the deal (as opposed to all other tiers). Sure we get access to CoronaCards iOS/Android, but I don’t think many existing Enterprise users will see much benefit from that. At the end of the day we want to use Corona to make our apps, and CoronaCards doesn’t bring anything new to the table than we already have with Enterprise. It’s just a different way to use native with Corona.

Since Pro users get upgraded to Enterprise + a subscription extension (1.5 * months left) I think it would be fair that existing Enterprise users also get the same subscription extension as well.

What if a pro subscriber has no need or use Enterprise license? The 1.5 times in Enterprise License deal is meaningless to me. As others have chimed in I too would much prefer a prorated refund. Thanks.

Can anybody download daily builds? I thought this should be possible for free now…?!?

Short generally question. If I use corona cards or enterprise to develop my app. If my subscription run out, can I still use the last build, within my subscription time, to update my app after my license expired? Or do I have to renew my account to a build my code?

Thanks!

this is awesome news indeed!

I don’t think that it will be possible to get a refund since you still get what you payed for. The enterprise upgrade was just an act of fairness in my opinion.

This is very good news for all current devs, and even more so for those potential indie devs who have been on the fence, wanting to use Corona, but been put off by the Pro subscription price. I’ve been a Pro subscriber for two years, and I absolutely LOVE it and I find Lua is a joy to code in.

As others have mentioned, though, I don’t really need the automatic Enterprise 1.5x ‘bonus’. My sub expires at the end of May, so I haven’t got that long to go - I’m not looking for a refund, but I would like to know what the procedure will be to downgrade from my promotional Enterprise level back to the (now free) Pro level.  Will this be an option I simply choose when my sub renewal comes up, or do I need to manually request to be pushed back to Pro before then?

Thank you for everything that Corona is, and everything it now has the potential to be.

I like to know this too. Or I’ll assume its unlimited  which is odd.

I am surprised corona still charges standard price per month instead of % made if revenue higher than 500k.

I am in the same situation, no need for the enterprise part and subscription for pro doesn’t matter if it is extended because it is free! But I am fine with it.

May I know if windows phone 8 is free, then what is the differents between the free version and the coronacard WP8 we get till expired date?

The same with me . and I have have pruchase for 3 years one time 7 months ago.  I just hope I can refund other 2 years. that’s all . this year fee can’t refund is reason for me . but other 2 years. … I do not use any Corona Enterpise and can not transfor  to other… :frowning:

Hi everyone - thanks for all the comments and questions. Here is another pass at answering some questions I’ve seen:

  1. Windows Phone 8 - You will get access to CoronaCards WP8 for free, just like Pro had it before. For those of you that think building with CoronaCards WP8 is hard, do give it a try. Lots of developers have ported their apps and it works very well. We have step by step instructions here:

http://docs.coronalabs.com/coronacards/wp8/index.html

  1. Daily builds - Yes, everyone now has access to daily builds. If you aren’t seeing them, it might be a small bug in that pages permissions and it will be fixed soon. Hang tight a bit and it will work.

  2. Refunds for Enterprise customers - Sorry, but we can’t give any refunds to Corona Enterprise customers. We understand that you may not have a use for CoronaCards, and that’s fine - we threw it in just in case. However, Corona Enterprise customers are getting what they paid for. We did the slightly more generous upgrades for Basic/Pro users because we did change the license on them and wanted to make sure we took care of them as much as possible. By the way, many Pro developers also don’t have a use for Corona Enterprise, but we will be unable to give them refunds either (unless they bought in 2015).

  3. What was in Pro/is now free? - All our Lua APIs are now free. That basically means everything. All the APIs listed here:

http://docs.coronalabs.com/api/index.html

Hmm, my subscription for pro was up on Jan 19th, at which point I upgraded to Enterprise, (6 weeks ago), so you are telling me 6 weeks ago you knew nothing of this upcoming event and yet you still charged me for Enterprise and to top it off you are giving pro users 1.5 x months, I understand if this was 6 months ago but it’s 6 weeks!! So if I want to cancel my Enterprise account you will give me a refund?

cublah - We are honestly not trying to be difficult. There has to be a line somewhere on what refunds we give and to whom, and we have tried to be as fair as possible. In the case of people who purchased Corona Enterprise - they are still getting exactly what they purchased, with no changes (and in fact, an upgrade, which we admittedly understand may not be useful to some).

To answer your specific question: no, 6 weeks ago we weren’t exactly sure of the timing of the announcement, nor of what type of refunds we were going to give anyone.

But you admit you knew, you are giving pro rated refunds to everybody except Enterprise users in the specified time frame (from Jan 1st), If I stayed as a Pro user I would have been better of by $360 and have a longer subscription to Enterprise, you set the time frame of Jan 1st. Way to go to piss off your now paying customers.

Yes, we did indeed know we were going to do something

Yes, you could have stayed Pro for 6 more weeks and I guess you would have come out “ahead” dollar wise. But you also would have not had Corona Enterprise to work on for 6 weeks. Again, we really did not time this to somehow harm Corona Enterprise users. We just want all our customers to get what they paid for.

That is a terrible answer and with a smiley face - it just looks like you are laughing at me, Anybody who signed up for any subscription this year should have a pro rated refund, please cancel my subscription and issue a refund.

cublah - I am not laughing at you. Feel free to email me directly and I am happy to explain our policy further.

I already did.

Folks, Corona has made their policy clear. If you don’t like it, well, don’t renew. In any case, you got at least what you paid for, and had the use of it when Pro developers didn’t.
