Corona SDK is now Free!

We just announced that Corona SDK is now fully free. There are no longer Starter, Basic and Pro tiers. Instead, all users of Corona SDK get everything the Pro tier included (and there are no more tiers, just “Corona SDK”).

Read about it in the blog post (along with another great announcement).

If you have any questions not covered in the FAQs, feel free to post on this thread and we will do our best to answer.

Amazing! Corona is such a great product, thank you.

It sounds great - but where will Corona (or Fuse) get the income to enable them to continue developing the product.

so, will Corona’s future viability be sustained entirely via Fuse-related activity?

(that is, is CSDK now effectively a “loss leader” for Fuse?)

if so, any chance future builds will “force” some sort of Fuse-related activity for your benefit?  (ad spash on startup for example)

or “force” the collection of some type of behind-the-scenes analytics, that might be “questionable” in certain market segments?

or… what?  the cynic suspects that nothing is ever truly free, and wonders what’s your angle

Hmmmm  …

Great news! It would be nice if you’d give all subscribers the chance to be pro-rated on their current package. I really don’t want Enterprise and I have 4 months left on my Pro package. I’d rather just get the refund since I run a tight business.

Also will the 2 machine limit be lifted?  I have a desktop and laptop, plus a work laptop I’d like to all use Corona on.  I “guess” I could just sign up for another account.

This is all good news.  I hope this gets more subscribers.

This is really great news, It would be very interesting to let us know Corona’s new “business model” in order to be assured that Corona sdk is here to stay.

Also is there any easy way  (a list or something similar) for non-Pro users to find out which are the new features/API that are now available?

You can check out waybackmachine.org.

Check the pricing page and see the differences between the different tiers. The linked snapshot is from a few weeks ago.

Thanks, this is the list that I was looking for.

Awesome news! Really thank you, guys. Really grateful for the bonuses.

One thing, I am an Enterprise subscriber and I kinda envy Pro subscribers - more Enterprise months sounds a better deal to me compared to CoronaCards.

So can you please replace my CoronaCards licenses with just more months of Corona Enterprise?

Thanks!

And what about Windows Phone 8? Is it going to be free as well? Or paid like CoronaCards for iOS and Android?

Great news, thank you Corona/Fuse team, this comes at a superb time!

Amazing! I love it! Hurray! Yeah! Great! Woo hoo! Yippee! Excellent! Fantastic! Wow! Superb! Incredible!

And computer-based apps! This just gets better and better!

P.S. Yes, there are 14 exclamation points in the post. This is really amazing. Thanks so much Corona!

Said this on twitter, but wow. I was still a subscriber but coming Win+Mac support was such a huge clincher for me.

David: This is excellent news! It’s good to see Corona continuing to innovate.

It’s also very decent of Corona to offer pro-rated refunds for Basic or Pro customers who bought in 2015. (Though, personally, I’m more excited by the upgrade to Enterprise, and will likely pay to keep it once I get hooked!)

There is no revenue limit listed on the free tier now unlike the old page (http://web.archive.org/web/20150219121032/http://coronalabs.com/pricing/).

What is it now? $100k? $500k? Unlimited? It should really be spelled out like the other 2 tiers.

Very nice!

Time to get caught up on a few things.  :stuck_out_tongue:

Speaking of which, the notes on the Daily Builds still seem to be off-limits (or maybe just broken).

“all users of Corona SDK get everything the Pro tier included”

Prior to today, Pro Tier included a Corona Cards license for Windows Phone. It doesn’t look like that’s included in the new free tier. Am I reading that correctly?

Hi everyone, thanks for all the comments. And we are glad to see that people are excited by the announcements.

To answer a few questions:

  1. Making Corona SDK free should be a net positive to everyone and grow our community. And it does not endanger our business model. Now that we are part of Fuse, we plan to make their monetization engine available to all Corona developers (as mentioned in the blog post) and we believe this will be the best and easiest way to monetize your games. Under those circumstances, we prefer to have a larger community, rather than charging for a license fee.

  2. All Lua APIs were available to Pro users, and that means they are available to all users now. So basically everything here:

http://docs.coronalabs.com/api/index.html

  1. The 2 machine limit per account has not (and will not go away). This is because we still want to keep the sense, as much as possible, of 1 user per account. Of course, I’m sure you guys have already figured out that you can just go ahead and create a new account for your extra machines, and that is fine.

  2. Daily builds (and notes) should be available to all. If they aren’t (I’ll check in a bit) we will fix soon.

  3. CoronaCards WP8 will be available for everyone. So just like it was available to Pros before, it is now available to everyone. If this hasn’t been set up yet, then it will get done in the next couple of days for sure.

Thanks for all the questions!

This is awesome - thanks guys!!!

I take it you guys got those new engineers you were looking for?
