We just announced that Corona SDK is now fully free. There are no longer Starter, Basic and Pro tiers. Instead, all users of Corona SDK get everything the Pro tier included (and there are no more tiers, just “Corona SDK”).
Read about it in the blog post (along with another great announcement).
If you have any questions not covered in the FAQs, feel free to post on this thread and we will do our best to answer.
Great news! It would be nice if you’d give all subscribers the chance to be pro-rated on their current package. I really don’t want Enterprise and I have 4 months left on my Pro package. I’d rather just get the refund since I run a tight business.
Also will the 2 machine limit be lifted? I have a desktop and laptop, plus a work laptop I’d like to all use Corona on. I “guess” I could just sign up for another account.
This is all good news. I hope this gets more subscribers.
This is really great news, It would be very interesting to let us know Corona’s new “business model” in order to be assured that Corona sdk is here to stay.
Also is there any easy way (a list or something similar) for non-Pro users to find out which are the new features/API that are now available?
David: This is excellent news! It’s good to see Corona continuing to innovate.
It’s also very decent of Corona to offer pro-rated refunds for Basic or Pro customers who bought in 2015. (Though, personally, I’m more excited by the upgrade to Enterprise, and will likely pay to keep it once I get hooked!)
“all users of Corona SDK get everything the Pro tier included”
Prior to today, Pro Tier included a Corona Cards license for Windows Phone. It doesn’t look like that’s included in the new free tier. Am I reading that correctly?
Hi everyone, thanks for all the comments. And we are glad to see that people are excited by the announcements.
To answer a few questions:
Making Corona SDK free should be a net positive to everyone and grow our community. And it does not endanger our business model. Now that we are part of Fuse, we plan to make their monetization engine available to all Corona developers (as mentioned in the blog post) and we believe this will be the best and easiest way to monetize your games. Under those circumstances, we prefer to have a larger community, rather than charging for a license fee.
All Lua APIs were available to Pro users, and that means they are available to all users now. So basically everything here:
The 2 machine limit per account has not (and will not go away). This is because we still want to keep the sense, as much as possible, of 1 user per account. Of course, I’m sure you guys have already figured out that you can just go ahead and create a new account for your extra machines, and that is fine.
Daily builds (and notes) should be available to all. If they aren’t (I’ll check in a bit) we will fix soon.
CoronaCards WP8 will be available for everyone. So just like it was available to Pros before, it is now available to everyone. If this hasn’t been set up yet, then it will get done in the next couple of days for sure.
