Hi everyone - thanks for all the comments and questions. Here is another pass at answering some questions I’ve seen:

  1. Windows Phone 8 - You will get access to CoronaCards WP8 for free, just like Pro had it before. For those of you that think building with CoronaCards WP8 is hard, do give it a try. Lots of developers have ported their apps and it works very well. We have step by step instructions here:

http://docs.coronalabs.com/coronacards/wp8/index.html

  1. Daily builds - Yes, everyone now has access to daily builds. If you aren’t seeing them, it might be a small bug in that pages permissions and it will be fixed soon. Hang tight a bit and it will work.

  2. Refunds for Enterprise customers - Sorry, but we can’t give any refunds to Corona Enterprise customers. We understand that you may not have a use for CoronaCards, and that’s fine - we threw it in just in case. However, Corona Enterprise customers are getting what they paid for. We did the slightly more generous upgrades for Basic/Pro users because we did change the license on them and wanted to make sure we took care of them as much as possible. By the way, many Pro developers also don’t have a use for Corona Enterprise, but we will be unable to give them refunds either (unless they bought in 2015).

  3. What was in Pro/is now free? - All our Lua APIs are now free. That basically means everything. All the APIs listed here:

http://docs.coronalabs.com/api/index.html

Hmm, my subscription for pro was up on Jan 19th, at which point I upgraded to Enterprise, (6 weeks ago), so you are telling me 6 weeks ago you knew nothing of this upcoming event and yet you still charged me for Enterprise and to top it off you are giving pro users 1.5 x months, I understand if this was 6 months ago but it’s 6 weeks!! So if I want to cancel my Enterprise account you will give me a refund?

cublah - We are honestly not trying to be difficult. There has to be a line somewhere on what refunds we give and to whom, and we have tried to be as fair as possible. In the case of people who purchased Corona Enterprise - they are still getting exactly what they purchased, with no changes (and in fact, an upgrade, which we admittedly understand may not be useful to some).

To answer your specific question: no, 6 weeks ago we weren’t exactly sure of the timing of the announcement, nor of what type of refunds we were going to give anyone.

But you admit you knew, you are giving pro rated refunds to everybody except Enterprise users in the specified time frame (from Jan 1st), If I stayed as a Pro user I would have been better of by $360 and have a longer subscription to Enterprise, you set the time frame of Jan 1st. Way to go to piss off your now paying customers.

Yes, we did indeed know we were going to do something

Yes, you could have stayed Pro for 6 more weeks and I guess you would have come out “ahead” dollar wise. But you also would have not had Corona Enterprise to work on for 6 weeks. Again, we really did not time this to somehow harm Corona Enterprise users. We just want all our customers to get what they paid for.

That is a terrible answer and with a smiley face - it just looks like you are laughing at me, Anybody who signed up for any subscription this year should have a pro rated refund, please cancel my subscription and issue a refund.

cublah - I am not laughing at you. Feel free to email me directly and I am happy to explain our policy further.

I already did.

Folks, Corona has made their policy clear. If you don’t like it, well, don’t renew. In any case, you got at least what you paid for, and had the use of it when Pro developers didn’t.

The enterprise subscription fee remains the same so I would consider the corona cards a good bonus to enterprise subscribers.

Pro subscription however should be able to get a refund if the user doesn’t need enterprise. corona cards ios&android are not needed if you are developing with Coronasdk. Wp8 is free.

I am very glad I did not renew yet(left 3 mth), but for unfortunate ppl like @codingcake basically just thrown the 3 year subscription fees down the drain.

Nob Studio - we are giving refunds to Basic/Pro subscribers if they bought in 2015, which we think is fair.

As for anyone who has bought multiple years, we will happily give a refund. Perhaps on the first year, depending on the timing (if they bought in 2015), but certainly on the 2nd and 3rd years.

I was really excited to see this in my email. A hearty thanks to the staff who made this possible!

As a (previous) Basic user, I have now access to the daily builds (hooray!).

But after installing the 2015.2576 it’s written “Enterprise” at the right corner of the simulator. I take it this will go away after a month and will be replaced with Pro?

Hi,

So I just requested a refund to refund at coronalabs.com since I just bought Pro like a couple of weeks ago
but haven’t got any reply back except a mail from support saying my request has been logged.

Is this the right reply or do I need to send another request?

Also, with this free Pro I can still make build for WP8 right? I’m abit confused since you mentioned that Pro users has been able to get WP8 Corona card for free, afaik it used to be several hundreds $ to license it. That’s what stopping me from releasing on WP8 so far

Thanks

Hi @yanuar,

Yes, you can now develop for WP8 using your current license. If you haven’t located the proper guides/tutorials, please see here:

http://docs.coronalabs.com/coronacards/wp8/index.html

http://coronalabs.com/resources/tutorials/coronacards-enterprise/

Also, we received the refund requests and we’re working through them in order. If you don’t hear back anything by early next week, please bump this thread to remind me.

Thanks,

Brent

Since Corona SDK became free, the build process has become notceably more unstable. Is this because suddenly your user base has increased by 200%? Or is it because now everybody has the same priority in the build queue?

I used to be a paying customer and one of the nice things was that I was prioritized in the building queue.

The engineers are not seeing any slowdowns.  For former starter accounts its important to logout and back in, then quit and restart to make sure it doesn’t say “Starter” in the top right.

Rob

The build process seems to be more like before now.

Hi, I already have a Google Play developer account. So, if Corona SDK is free now, does it mean that I need not pay Corona and still be able to generate signed apk files and publish my applications to Google Play?
