Corona SDK Simulator Lag on Windows 8 I7 processor GeForce GTX 960M

When I run any sample that comes with the corona SDK It lags on my MSI Laptop with Intel® Core™ i7-4720HQ CPU 2.60GHZ / 12.0 GB Ram / GEForce GTX 960M Graphics Card. I have searched google and the Coronalabs forums to find a fix for this all day today with no success.

Note: when I select Hardware>Shake the sample runs normal while it is shaking, as soon as it stops the app freezes. No error messages in console. Also when i select an item for the toolbar the screen changes state for 1 - 2 seconds then freezes again. Anyone else have this problem and know of a fix for this? I have tried multiple sample apps from physics to interface to graphics, All with the same result. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Jesse

I would try to uninstall corona SDK and then reinstall with the latest build… if you have the latest build just try uninstalling and reinstalling if that doesn’t work then uninstall the latest build and try and try installing an older build… Thats pretty much all i can think of since you have a Very nice PC and it should work perfect… Heres the link the getting the older and newer builds (https://developer.coronalabs.com/downloads/daily-builds/) NOTE: Your on windows so download the MSI files…

Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply. I have tried the latest build from the daily builds after reinstalling the public build, both with no success. I will try going to an older build and see if that solves my problem.

Thanks,

Jesse

Can you try with build 2646, the last public build?

Rob

Just uninstalled the daily build and installed build 2646 and still have the same results. I tried the sample app “MultiPuck” and when i click the screen I hear the “Pop” sound right away(no lag) but the image doesn’t appear on the screen for about 4 seconds. Once the puck is on the screen it is stationary, i click to drag the puck and 2 seconds after I release the click, the puck “jumps” an inch across the screen as if it were lagging then stops and doesn’t move.

Thank you for your help,

Jesse

Are you running in a Virtual Machine (VM)?

Can you bring up the task manager (CTRL-ALT-DELETE and pick Task Manager) and look at some of the tabs that show the resources?

How much free disk space do you have?

Are you running Corona SDK somewhere other than the C: drive?

Thanks

Rob

  • I am not running a virtual machine.

  • attached image of task manager

  • 522GB of 569GB free space on C drive

  • Corona is installed on the C drive

Thanks,

Jesse

P.S. I tried a random daily build from 2014 which was build 2511 and had the same results.

Are you using the latest graphic drivers from nVidia?

Yes I am. After posting this topic i realized I did not have the most recent driver and updated hoping to solve my problem, unfortunately it did not.

Thanks,

Jesse

Hey, maybe your ram or your graphics card or something else is going out? maybe find something on the web like a program to check it? I cant find one for you atm really busy…

Well I just bought this laptop about 2 weeks ago and the computer recognizes 12.0 GB of RAM and runs YouTube videos fine. I haven’t tried the Android Studio Emulator or any games yet but I will soon to see how they act.

Thanks,

Jesse

Well from experience I bought a brand new laptop and turned out the ram was bad from day one to 6 when I had it… Lucky for me I had warranty… But ya download a game or two and try playing them on max settings… Your PC should take most games at max settings

I have played NBA 2K15 and GTA V on max settings and both run fine. I have just recently updated my graphics card driver to a newer version that was just released and still have had no luck. I have also installed the latest daily build with no success. The Corona Simulator works flawlessly on my desktop but unfortunately I haven’t been able to get it working properly on my laptop… Any other ideas would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Jesse

Im running out of ideas lol BUT maybe this will help you? Ok so i dont have time to research this for you because im working a big game of my own… but maybe you could add more ram usage to the simulator? like so lets say when you run the simulator the simulator uses lets say 4 gb of ram… you understand? if no i can explain better…

After upgrading from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 and upgrading my nVidia driver(Automatically updated after upgrade to Win 10), the simulator is back to normal with no issues! I have no idea what the issue was in the first place but I am very happy that it is working on my laptop now.

Thanks everyone for trying to help!
