Corona Simulator crashes first time run after installation

Corona Simulator hard-crashes (“Corona Simulator has stopped working”) the first time I tried to run it after installing Corona SDK.

Corona SDK version: 2015.2731

Windows: Vista, 64-bit

Java: tried JDK 8, JDK7, JDK6 64-bit, JDK6 32-bit (by changing my PATH environment variable and testing from console with “java -version”, then re-launching Corona Simulator; same crash every time)

I couldn’t find a log file for Corona Simulator. I tried changing the Java runtime versions based on possible solutions I found through google.

Since you’re on Vista, it’s likely a video driver problem. Vista was notorious for not working well with video drivers. Corona should flag video cards/drivers that it can’t work with, but because Vista had so many driver issues, it’s possible it’s reporting a modern enough setup but not really supporting it.

See if you can find updated drivers for your video card. You need to support at a minimum OpenGL 2.1 or higher.

My mistake: I actually have Windows 7 (old habits die hard).

I tried to update my drivers through Windows Device Manager, and it said it was already up-to-date. It identified the device as “Intel® HD Graphics Family”.

EDIT: I just started a driver download from Intel directly after looking up my computer’s exact graphics card specs on Dell; will try that next.
