Corona Simulator Starts to Slow Down

I use OSX: Mac Mini late 2012, 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5, 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

using Version 2016.2951 (2016.9.17)

Often now, my emulated app on the simulator will just start chugging. As if it is processing a ton of data. I can even be doing a very small routine and this will happen. Not really sure what’s going on.

Good news it doesn’t do it on device. Bad news it slows down testing in simulator quite a bit, and unfortunately a little to often now.

Sometimes going to the Console and hitting Command-K to clear the Simulator seems to sometimes* clear out something and speed it up.

*Sometimes, not all the time.

Anyone else ever have this issue?

How does fully quitting Corona affect this?  (Note: if Command-K is quit please forgive my ignorance.  I’m a Windows user first.  I only use the OS X version to do iOS builds.)

I’ve noticed on rare occasions (on a Windows system and with various builds of Corona) that if I re-load my app MANY MANY times without quitting I may see a small reduction of performance.

I’ve never been able to verify what causes this or how best to reproduce it.

When it does happen I simply fully quit Corona and restart.

My guess is there is a small leak in the simulator.

Hey Roaming!!! (my fav Corona Dev!)

Reloading Corona does seem to help. My thoughts are the same that it might be partially attributed to a small leak somewhere… but I think it might also be my computer being taxed too hard.

Command-K just clears the info in the console. Which makes sense why sometimes it rescues the simulator performance sometimes. I am quite the Chatty Coder with my print statements. (Command-R warm restart, Command-Q quit, btw incase you want to increase OSX trivia. B) )

I think it is definitely a livable problem. I’ve also noticed over last night dealing with this that making sure I don’t have too many extra things going on helps it out tremendously. With iTunes playing music for me while I work, Photoshop on for images, Tile Editor loaded with tons of maps, Chrome loaded with distractions, Sublime Text 2 doing its thing…it happens more often.  :lol:

This is why I didn’t want to really put this in a *Bugs* thread. I think it is heavily related to the performance of my machine and what I have going on. So when I drop a few of those programs out of CPU/GPU and reboot Corona I can get back to normal without it occurring for a long time.

I would like to stress that in cases that I have noticed this on Simulator, I have immediately loaded it on many many devices and never once seen this issue so that’s really good news. I think 3 days is the longest I have tested it constantly running on a Samsung Galaxy Avant.

Works good.  Just curious about the rare occurring bog down which I am sure I am partly to blame.
