Corona Trial Error just showed up in LIVE iOS app

I recently (today) started getting users of my Chirp app complaining of an error they were receiving when using our app. “Corona SDK Trial” This message only appears in the trial version.

I uninstall my app version from my iPhone and downloaded it fresh from the iOS app store. This error message shows up right after first launch and cripples the app for some users. Help….

The app has been in the App store for over a month with no issues, this is a new error that just appeared all on it’s own. My suspicion is it’s something to do with the Corona build servers.

Hi @MBD,

We’re investigating this now. Can you provide a specific build # that you used to deploy this app?

Thanks,
Brent

Hi Brent,

Build 1035 is what I used to release this with.

Did you guys ever find anything? I’ve still got the mysterious error in my published app.

Hi @MBD,

We investigated this, and I believe we contacted you personally with the result, correct? The summary is that you need to re-build without using Enterprise Trial, and resubmit to the App Store. This should solve the problem.

Thanks for understanding,

Brent

Hi Brent,

Yes -David did respond to my email but I’m a bit confused on why or “how” the app suddenly had this message appear? I did not build it using the Corona Enterprise version, it was a standard version (daily build) from the website shortly after the release of the widget 2.0.

Richard - as I told you in my email, I did see this message in a version of your app that was installed on my phone weeks ago. It is *impossible* for a message like that to appear on a shipped Corona app if it wasn’t there before. Once we built the app for you (and *especially* after you submitted to the app store) we have no way to change the app or add any sort of message. It just doesn’t work that way.

The fix at this point is for you to re-build the app and re-submit.

Thanks for the reply David. I understand the impossibility of an error just “appearing” weeks after it’s launch. But I can tell you we tested this app extensively after it was published in the app store, and on multiple devices including my kids, my wife, and other family members so we could really “team test” it. The SDK trial error was not there when built, published, or tested, like I said Apple wouldn’t have approved it either.

I’ll digress by re-submitting to the app store with a new version, but I would like to know what could have happened to cause this, given what I tell you is true about the error not being there during the first month or so of launch.

Thanks again,

Richard

Richard - again, there is nothing that could have changed your app after:

  1. you built it

  2. even less after you submitted it

  3. and even less after someone out in the wild installed it

I fall into the 3rd camp. I installed your app weeks ago and I see the trial message.

I agree that it seems weird Apple would have approved, but there is no other explanation.
