Coronalabs seems a bit silent

Is it me or has Coronalabs been a bit quieter than it used to be in the past? It feels like a lot of the blog posts have been guests or references to the forum and there hasn’t been any updates on where the company sees Corona heading. I also have two bugs, one of which is delaying an app update in the bugtracker and the other I’m waiting to hear back on so I can go ahead with a release. I guess the latter worries me more than the former, but I’d love to know more about what Coronalabs is up to and where it’s heading. Have I just missed an update?

I wouldn’t be overly concerned - however I do know what you’re getting at…

After the GFX 2.0 release it does seem as though the team have gone into blackout mode - let’s hope they’re just busy toiling way on fixes and features…

this is the time of the year when they do some house cleaning. they bring in new people get rid of less productive people. clean out some of the older code. and most of the executives take a 2-4 week vacation. just kidding I have no idea but don’t think there’s anything to worry about.

maybe they are all working hard for the windows mobile support!

It seems like it got quiet after Inna Treyger left.  In doesn’t appear they brought anyone else in to take over her position, which is a mistake in my opinion.

It scares me to think about what’s next… Now that the major 2013 features are all out there and bugs are slowly being fixed I bet the inertia must be shifting towards the promised Windows Mobile platform compatibility. I recall this was mentioned for a possible April 2014 release which is literally around the corner… I can’t imagine how many new bugs we will have to deal with once that version hits the wire… Call me pessimistic but this has been the weakness of Corona Labs team all along.

And yes, they did lose some key people recently it appears. Lets hope they have enough in the bank to keep the team strong… I was reading about the following late 2012 release : http://techcrunch.com/2012/11/13/corona-labs-raises-an-additional-2-million-to-grow-its-mobile-app-framework-corona-sdk/

Specifically, Corona hopes to use the funding to double its headcount from the 11 it has today to include more core, back-end and framework engineers. In addition, the company is planning on rolling out additional, in-demand features and third-party integrations to its Corona SDK product, the first of which should arrive within the next month. As to what these features will be, Luh is staying mum, only saying that these are things that its developers have been asking for but that Corona didn’t have the sheer manpower to deliver until now.

That latter part obviously talks about Corona Cloud… Not sure if that doubling of 11 to 22 headcount ever materialized. We all know how the Cloud adventure went. Seems to me that $2M did not get all that it was planned to but hey what do I know! Lets just hope they don’t go under and pull us all along.

Hi guys. I don’t think we have been particularly quiet. But perhaps it’s just that we are focused on a couple of bigger things coming soon, including the Windows Phone support.

But other than that, nothing out of the ordinary…

Good to hear - and as most of us suspected.

I guess there are a few things that would perhaps be learnt to make things better however.

The lack of a prominent RoadMap does seem to suggest some confusion/doubt over where the platform is heading - we all know WP is on the way, etc… but I do think RoadMaps help to instil confidence in the future ahead. Sure you don’t want to create a rod for your own backs when deadlines pass, etc…, however I think increasing transparency but not necessarily culpability has to be a good thing.

I prefer to see the CL team working hard away on tasks instead of frequenting the forums/blogs - but is has been quite some time since we’ve seen/heard from Walter - nice to see him pop up from his desk occasionally.

Whilst I was never a big fan of App Reviews on the blog and prefer to see Rob/Brent/Guest Posters tutorials - I think the Blog could benefit from the points Im outlining above - a clear indication of where Corona is and where it’s heading.

Just a few thoughts… as David has pointed out “nothing to see here, please move along…”
