Just have to give a shout out to darkFunction sprite editor. It’s free and I found it to be really helpful. I downloaded some free sprite images from the internet, but they were multiple images one sheet. I didn’t want to bother splitting them into separate images to use Texture Packer, so I tried darkFunction. With darkFunction, you just double click on the individual images and it selects that part of the graphic. Keep doing that until all images are selected, then Save As… to get spritesheet. The format that comes out is not LUA, so I did have to do a bunch of search and replaces, but not too bad. Unfortunately, Sublime Text would no let me make the search and replaces into a macro 
Ah, well, you can’t have everything.
