Detecting a jailbroken device

So, Time Warner Cable came out with a new version of their iPad app to stream their television channels, but like Apple’s iBooks app, they have some internal code that detects whether or not the device is jailbroken and won’t run if it is.

I’m not trying to start a war with the jailbreaking community, and I know we can’t win the war against piracy, but I’d personally feel more secured knowing that everyone who is using my app is on a level, equally secured platform.

Can you implement code that Corona SDK users can optionally use to simply test for a jailbreak and act accordingly?

I’ve seen enough of the jailbreak scene to tell you that if you did this, the cracker will fix it – and blatently brag about getting past your code. if it was baked into the app, it would be a simple code that EVERYONE using Corona would be able to get past once it was figured out.

That said, quite a few of us use jailbroken phones but don’t believe in piracy. I find the practice sleazy…you can afford a $300 phone, but can’t afford $2? Screw you…at the same time, I spent $300 on a phone, I don’t feel that anyone has the right to restrict what I can do with it – therefore I jailbroke mine. At this point, 99% of what I need can be done with the base phone, but still…its the principle of the matter. [import]uid: 62658 topic_id: 12195 reply_id: 44401[/import]
