Develop on an iPad?

This has probably been asked and i just didn’t see it, but has anyone found a good way to develop apps on the actual iPad? I realize there’s no simulator, but would like to write code while traveling and be able to sync code back & forth with my desktop.

Thanks! [import]uid: 64538 topic_id: 33406 reply_id: 333406[/import]

There is a really great text editor which can connect to your dropbox account called “Droptext”.

On the subject of building apps, there are services which allow you to connect to a server running a mac for building apps. I’ve not tried them, but I believe you can build and also use other services for simulating devices (good for organisations with lots of target devices.)

So yes, if you want to rent (at a fair but low price) server time for building and testing and get a copy of a good editor you’ll be ok.

I think these forums would really like to know how you get on if you go down that route. I personally don’t need to but I was just asked this question at work yesterday, so definitely have an interest  [import]uid: 8271 topic_id: 33406 reply_id: 132728[/import]

Like what horacebury said, however I use an app called ‘Textastic’. It has full lua syntax highlighting and allows me to work on my iPhone or iPad and sync via Dropbox.

It has good display settings (font, size, themes, line numbers, tab width, wrapped text) and password protection on the app too.

Textastic: 5.99GBP - https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/textastic-code-editor/id383577124?mt=8
Droptext: 0.69GBP - https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/droptext/id371880635?mt=8

I’ve just bought Textastic as I’d seen it before but thought it was a bit pricey. Will give it a good try though as the lua support sounds awesome! [import]uid: 8271 topic_id: 33406 reply_id: 132741[/import]
