Hi,
at this moment, Corona SDK is not the right tool for that kind of books. Unity 3D is the best cost effective solution for the 3D apps. Also, you should have very,very good budget for similar project. “Amazing Race” have been sold more than 250.000 pcs and is made with Corona SDK. So, my suggestion would be that you create the 2D book (with corona SDK) which will be succesful as “Amazing Race” and than you will have enough money to invest in 3D books.

The 3D book will be difficult, the 2D images in the book also.
But showing the 2D views of the book can be done with the right math.,
I need to agree that a 3D engine would be more pleasant to work it out
