Do I need to update to XCODE 5 to connect my newly updated iphone to IOS 7.0.4?

Hello guys,

I just updated my iphone 5 to ios 7.04 (don’t like it!) Anyway now I cannot seems to connect the device to my Macbook air running Xcode 4.6.2??? It says:

“…The version of iOS on “Mo’s iPhone 5” is not supported by this installation of the iOS SDK. Please restore the device to a version of the OS listed below, or update to the latest version of the iOS SDK; which is available here…”

There is no other ios sdk listed and when follow the like “here” it takes me to xcode where I can see the latest is xcode 5. Do I REALLY need to upgrade to xcode 5 to re-connect my device to my mac and be able to upload apps?

I should say that I am using Corona #1260 (last GFX1) but I am not sure that makes any difference. In my latest app I also have the ios 7 required icons files but it is not really an ios 7 app per se. Again, that should not make any difference.

Thanks for any help!

Mo

Ok, let me answer my own question in case it helps someone here. I went and updated to xcode 5 It is a 2 GB file! But everything went well. Not sure what difference it makes on being MORE compatible with ios 7 but it is done now:)

Apple does not include the iOS 7 SDK with versions of XCode older than XCode 5.0.  Your phone is iOS 7 and it needs to speak iOS 7 to Xcode when communicating features and such.   Generally when Apple releases a new major OS, there will be a major update to XCode to go with it and have the latest SDK with it.  When you update to 7.1, you can expect that there will be an update to Xcode to go with it.

Thanks Rob for the explanation. So far so good. Actually someone told me that Apple will not accept apps build with Xcode 4+ starting Feb 1st 2014

So I guess I am ready for that  now:)
