Hi there,
got today an email from Admob, that they will discontinue SDKs before 7.0 from 15. September 2016.
What AdMob SDK Version do we use right now?
Thanks
Chris

I’ll ask the team. But I believe the AdMob plugin is compiled against GPGS 4.x. Keep in mind that it’s is a holiday here in the US, it may be a few days before I get an answer.
Can you post the whole email? There is a similar post on StackOverflow that suggests this is about the Google Mobile Ads standalone SDK. We are using the Google Play Services version and may not be impacted by this. Engineering will probably want to see the whole email since Google has several products involved.

Hey guys, I got the same email also see below
Hello, AdMob is committed to providing you the most effective monetisation solutions. As we innovate, it’s important that we leverage the latest technologies to bolster our platform. As part of this movement, we are deprecating versions 6.4.1 and lower of the Android Google Mobile Ads SDK on 15 September 2016. In order to ensure that your ads continue to serve after 15 September 2016, please upgrade to Google Mobile Ads SDK 7.0.0 or higher. The newer Google Mobile Ads SDKs have many more benefits for you:
To upgrade your SDK, add the latest version of play-services (listed under dependencies) in your Gradle Build configuration file. For example, the following added v9.0: apply plugin: ‘com.android.application’
…
dependencies {
compile ‘com.google.android.gms:play-services:9.0.2’
}
Stay tuned for more updates and tips. Cheers,
The AdMob Team
I got exactly the same email from Google today.
A couple of our engineers have gotten the message too on their apps. I don’t think we need any more reports now.
Rob
Hey Rob, do you guys have an ETA on the upgrade? I know there is still one more month until the depracation of 7- versions, but it’d impact on 100% of my revenue and I’m a little bit scared.
Thanks.
Got the same email from Google. While waiting for Corona to reply, everyone following this topic - please vote for the Admob Plugin update here: http://feedback.coronalabs.com/forums/188732-corona-sdk-feature-requests-feedback/suggestions/12945099-admob-plugin-update
First of all, there is more than one month. We have over two months. Of course it would be nice to have an option for you before the deadline.
The team is very aware of this deadline. This is a complex issue since it involves more than just the AdMob ad library. It impacts the Google Play Services library and other required components. We have to address dependencies across multiple platforms. You may have heard us talking about plugin versioning and this is tied to all of this.
So, the best thing I can say is “We are working on it, but it’s not a quick fix”.
Rob
You are right Rob, my bad. It’s 2 months, not 1… duh.
That’s good to hear, thanks.
Do we actually need to update at all?
Quote: " So if you updated your app after August 1, 2014, then your app will have newer versions of Admob"
Hopefully no update is required if we are to keep showing ads?
We are using the Google Play Services version and not the stand alone AdMob (the change from Admob v1 to v2 plugin), so there is a good chance this is a non-issue for our users. Our engineers are on it and will figure it out.
Rob
Thanks Rob - much appreciated.
Got some clarification from Google Mobile Ads SDK team https://groups.google.com/forum/#!category-topic/google-admob-ads-sdk/ios/m2nBxsVFI38. The recent email from Google directly affects Android builds. iOS not affected.
Still, Google advices we seriously update our admob sdk.

Hi Rob,
any News?
Thanks
Chris
No status change from what I said last week.
Hi Rob, while I appreciate the efforts going on there, I’m sure by now you guys should at least know if our current admob version “will” or “will not” continue to work after the 15th of September. Giving us an answer at least on that will help us be better prepared especially with admob being one of the biggest revenue streams for a lot of us. If it is the case we need to update, The longer we dont update our apps with the latest admob for people who have our apps and don’t update we will loose revenue from. So the soonest we get our updates out with the new admob IF that’s what we need to do then the more we limit the hit we will take in revenue when it gets depreciated in September. If it comes out to be a week or two before. I couldn’t even imagine the amount of revenue I would loose based on current users. The only revenue I would get is any new users and people who update the app. Again this might be irrelivent if we do t need to update. But a simple answer letting us know if we will or not have to will put some of our minds at ease or get prepared with the limited time we might have.
Engineering says that you should be okay if you’re building against the current AdMob V2 plugin. If you have apps up in the store that were built against the older AdMob plugin, the will need updated.
Rob
Thank you Rob for the quick reply… thats music to my ears.
Hello, this is all fine? . is not necessary any update? today I again received a new Google Mail insisting on the need to update …
If the message was you need to update because you’re using 6.4.x or earlier, you will need to rebuild your apps. The current AdMob V2 plugin is newer and should still work.
