Do you guys still use Flash for animation? How bout a possible tool to export flash animation to be used in Corona?

Hi guys,

I’ve been using Corona SDK for the last 3 yrs now and have built a decent tool/engine that allows me to export animation from flash. This allows me to create modular animations that runs on 60 fps and produce smooth animation without much sprites. It’s kinda like what spine does but you’ll use flash to do it

I was wondering if there’s much use of this tool right now as I was thinking about sharing it since there’s a news about the possibility of putting  your own plugin to the Corona Store.

Thanks

Yes Yanuar, i have been looking for a way to export Flash animations into Corona for some time. It would be very much appreciated if you could share your tool. Even if you would like to test it before offering as a plugin, I would be keen to help. Many thanks, Julian www.yoozoobooks.com

hmm… thanks for the reply. What I made was nothing special really and it still uses other tools to complete the process. Basically you can export your animation to xml format using certain jsfl script in flash. What I did was translating that flash animation data in Corona.
You still need to use texturepacker to pack the sprites

I was wondering if that’s enough or people expecting an all in one tool, like just put the swf and they’ll get the result.

Yeah, it would be interesting to see what you’ve come up with. If you wanted to wait and develop it further to offer as a plugin, that would be cool too. Right now there is a gap for such a tool. The closest is GAF http://gafmedia.com/ who have been saying their process will be available for Corona for some time now… Although I think that pledge has fallen off their website now…

There is also the grapefrukt exporter which might be useful in this respect: https://github.com/grapefrukt/grapefrukt-export but still nothing as straight forwrad as an all-in-one tool as you say.

There was a great little tool called SpriteLoq, made by the creators if Cannon Cat that did just what you said, @Yanuar - you’d input a SWF and it would export a spritesheet file combo (lua and png). It was acquired by Lanica a few years ago and rebranded “Animo.” It still had marginal Corona support, but as Lanica was a Corona competitor, it was lack-luster and fell out of date after the old sprite.* library was depricated, but it was still workable with some manual tweaking. Unfortnately, Lanica seems to have been acquired by Black Gate Games and they seem to have chosen to discontinue Animo, as it can’t be found on their site. It’s a shame, as it was a very nice tool. You might want to email Black Gate to ask for them to sell or open-source Animo. Or maybe get in touch with the guys at LoqHeart (they’re nice guys) to see if they’d consider emailing you an old installer, as I’d guess they might still have access to the source.
