Does anyone have Inmobi ads working in a released iOS app?

I spent some hours today trying to test ads and couldn’t get anything useful to appear.

Running the demo app today showed nothing at all for the 320x48 banner but did show something for the 300x250 banner. When I last ran this app a week or two ago, it did show something at 320x48. AFAIK I’m using exactly the same code, the same appID & the same testMode setting so I don’t know why it now doesn’t work any more. I am interested in a 320x48 banner.

I modified my not-yet-released app to include ads today and saw nothing appear. I tried testMode=true as well as false, tried my appID as well as the test appID on Inmobi’s FAQ page. I even tried someone else’s appID that I found in the forums. Nothing seemed to produce any results at all.

The space on the screen for the ad still intercepts touch requests which means that the button I had placed beneath the Inmobi ad (which sent you to the appstore to buy the full version of my app) didn’t work. Would it be possible to not intercept the touch request in these cases?

As I don’t seem to be able to get any of this working, I would like to be able to see any example of this working. If there is anyone who has Inmobi ads working in a free app for iPhone, please let me know so that I can get you app and at least see how it works. I’d like to see what the delay is after you tap on an ad, where it returns to when you leave the ad, etc. All normal stuff that developers need to know. Also, if you have any tips on testing ads and getting them to work, please do let me know!

Thanks

Don’t bother to test the inmobi ads on iOS yet. They have not fixed the crash issue caused by incomplete load of ads.hide() since discovered on 8/2/2011. If they don’t fix the crash issue, you have no way to put it up in the app store because it will crash all the time. [import]uid: 42593 topic_id: 15000 reply_id: 55386[/import]

@jinwchen, I had read the thread about the crash issue and it was also something I wanted to test for. I don’t intend to use ads.hide() so does that mean I’m ok? Instead of ads.hide(), is there a ads.x or ads.y property so that the ad can be moved off-screen?

My last test of the day yesterday finally showed ads!! This used Inmobi’s testing appID with testMode=false. When I got up this morning, I reran it and … no ads shown even after letting it run for a minute or two. I’ve since relaunched the app a few times, and it eventually did show ads, then stopped showing ads. SIGH…

While the ads worked, I also noticed that:

  • when no ads are shown, touch events are intercepted so my button underneath does not work, so nothing happens
  • when ads are shown, touch events are let through and my button underneath gets triggered, so instead of going to the ad, it does whatever is defined in my button (which is to go to appstore).

I cannot understand why it is designed to work this way? Isn’t it completely the wrong way round? [import]uid: 29384 topic_id: 15000 reply_id: 55449[/import]

I have the same problem with 320x48 ads. 300x250 ads show up, 320x48 - don’t. Nor real, nor test. Again, code is exactly the same and it used to work before, about a week ago or so. Now it just doesn’t. I have opened a ticket with InMobi, but they are asking for the info you would know only if you used their SDK directly. So this ticket probably won’t be resolved anytime soon :expressionless: [import]uid: 52103 topic_id: 15000 reply_id: 59437[/import]

Since the inMobi crash bug was fixed and the latest SDK version was integrated into Corona I’ve noticed that with testMode = true I don’t see any ads on an iPhone 4, but I do see them on an iPad2. When I set testMode = false I see banners on both devices. (I set banner size to “banner320x48” for iPhone and “banner728x90” on iPad.)

I informed inMobi of the odd differences between iOS devices but their only response was that I should be testing with testMode = true. Though it’s impossible for me to test ads on an iPhone when no ads are coming in!

I’ve noticed sometimes there is a delay of a few minutes before the first ad is displayed so you might want to give your app a little time before deciding ads aren’t working at all. The delay is especially noticeable on the iPhone.

I have to say I’m a little frustrated by this whole process. We’re told to deal with inMobi support directly if we have issues, and while they’ve been responsive they don’t seem to know what’s going on either.

Also, I will give a nice, shiny, positive review to anyone who can direct me to a live app available for iOS that is Corona-made and displays inMobi ads.

@XenonBL, I had a similar experience. Most of Corona is easy to use, but using ads with Inmobi is just sooo frustrating.

Inmobi also told me to use testMode=true but I’m not sure if this allows for proper realistic testing, so I preferred using testMode=false and their test appID.

I would direct you to my live app with ads but it got rejected which is strange as my paid-for version got accepted. I don’t really understand why my free ad-supported version got rejected but I don’t think it was related to it having ads. [import]uid: 29384 topic_id: 15000 reply_id: 59772[/import]

@XenonBL: Looks like Float Free uses inMobi ads. [import]uid: 27119 topic_id: 15000 reply_id: 60229[/import]

@drewns

I’m pretty sure that’s the admob hack in Float Free. (evidenced by no page flip effect, web popup loading progress thingie, flickering and flashing when a new ad loads or fails to load). At least that’s what it looks like on my iPad. Perhaps they’ve re-purposed the admob hack to use a different ad provider network than adMob but it doesn’t look like Corona’s integrated inMobi ads to me. It may indeed be the admob hack, however on my iPhone the page flip effect is there and there don’t seem to be any glitches. Also, every few ads says “Ads by InMobi”. [import]uid: 27119 topic_id: 15000 reply_id: 60242[/import]

Weird. I just checked Float Free on my iPhone and still got the adMob style ads. I clicked on an ad and the browser went briefly through an adMob URL. Maybe Crawlspace is using both and switching, or using one as a backup.

Whatever is going on I still haven’t seen an inMobi ad displayed from a live Corona app. Perhaps I’m cursed… [import]uid: 9422 topic_id: 15000 reply_id: 60270[/import]

That’s bizarre. Just tried clicking on some ads and the link always takes me straight to the app store, so I don’t see a URL. All of the ads I see are for apps. The ones that are tagged with “Ads by InMobi” are always for Groupon. It seems one of the guys at Crawlspace would have to be the one to shed some light on what’s happening.

In any case, I hope Ansca and InMobi get things working soon. I’m planning to use ads in the free version of the app I’m working on. [import]uid: 27119 topic_id: 15000 reply_id: 60282[/import]

We have a very basic app we just released that uses inmobi ads in the IOS version of the app. its working just fine. Its received about 80 clicks 3 days in a row.

here is a link to it in the app store:

@team1

The Learning Gems - Math was released on Oct. 8. I assume that it will take one week for Apple to review. So the SDK build version you used must be before “CoronaSDK 2011.631 build on 2011-10-04”. That means your app will require location service even your app does not use it due to the ads bug in iOS. [import]uid: 42593 topic_id: 15000 reply_id: 60382[/import]

We’ve got two apps with inmobi. Here you go:

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/coachme-football-edition-lite/id455354813?ls=1&mt=8

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/nestme-lite/id466992516?ls=1&mt=8

We’ve got these in the Android marketplace as well.

My only complaint is that fill rates can be awful at times.

@team1 Thanks for the link to the app. With it I was able to see inMobi ads working on both iPhone and iPad. Good to finally see a working example (gives me some peace of mind). I left a positive review.

FYI, the app did not request to use location services, nor did it crash when changing screens during an ad transition. The ad banner does block the title on the title screen, though.
