Just wondering if Corona built apps remotely contact corona at all once published, even if no data usage is required by the app?

jtaylor - yes, we do collect basic analytics data on Corona apps. However, you can opt out. More information on that here (in our Project Configuration guide):

As for the data we collect, it is just basic data on number of sessions, duration of sessions and simple data on the device (type of device, OS, location).
