Dollar Short: Now Available for your iPad

NOW : I’m happy to report that Dollar Short is now available for your iPad and iPad2! You can download it now on the App Store: Dollar Short: The Penny Fiasco

The game is FREE while I continue to experiment with advertisements. Expect an update soon with additional features and, yes, full RETINA graphics for the new iPad!

PREVIOUSLY : Since November 2011, I’ve been working nights and weekends trying to come up with something to test the waters of Corona SDK with, and the result is Dollar Short, a fun and casual game of reflexes and coordination.

I did the development and design; my fiancee, Meg, did the graphics. We learned a lot in the process, making use of a good sized chunk of Corona’s features with plenty more to come.
NEXT : With the new iPad coming out on March 16th, we’re scrambling to prepare retina graphics and add some new features for the next release. Afterwards, we want to push out a version for the iPhone, Android, Kindle Fire, and Nook. If anyone is interested in testing the Kindle Fire and/or Nook versions, drop us a line at dollarshortgame@gmail.com.
DESCRIPTION :

Dollar Short: The Penny Fiasco is a fast, fun, and addictive game that tests your reflexes and coordination! You’ve broken into the rogue coin mint controlled by a shadowy organization, can you fight hyperinflation by smashing enough counterfeit quarters, nickels, dimes, and pennies before time runs out?

I love the graphics! Did you do them yourself? Gameplay looks awesome as well. I might have to convince my mom to get this on her iPad :slight_smile: [import]uid: 7116 topic_id: 22987 reply_id: 91796[/import]

@bryan PRETTY AWESOME! I’ve added your app to PL4YER.COM! [import]uid: 7475 topic_id: 22987 reply_id: 91813[/import]

@AlexGreene thanks! all of the graphics are hand drawn by my fiancee Meg, and I agree they are beautiful :slight_smile: I think the game turned out to be a lot of fun, and the next release should be even better (GameCenter support, world wide highscore tables, power-ups et c.) Give it a try!

@Sid T wow thanks for adding us to PL4YER.com, do you feature just Corona-powered games or all types?

hey Bryan, no we showcase all platforms. We’ll have a developers only section soon too. One central place for developers from different platforms and join and share experiences, buy/sell assets etc.

Bryan,

I have to say, the video got me really excited. Like, “as soon as this video is over I’m gonna buy this,” excited. I could clearly anticipate the gameplay as the video led up to the actual action. Then…

Let me tell you what I thought was going to happen. I thought the gameplay would be to flick the coins off the screen, maybe even watch them ricochet off each other. I was IN at that moment. Then, no.

I don’t say this to be a jerk (that just comes with being me I guess). The game looks great. This (in my opinion) would have made it awesome. [import]uid: 64596 topic_id: 22987 reply_id: 92064[/import]

Shane, don’t worry - I have thick skin and I take feedback seriously! Right now, Dollar Short isn’t using Corona’s built-in physics which is partly why you can’t fling them around and why they don’t ricochet off each other. But I think you’ll be pleased to know that I had exactly what you described in mind for an upcoming update. There will be several types of challenges, including a two player competitive mode, and it’ll be a whole lot of fun.

It won’t be in the very next update (1.0.1) which will add retina graphics and some bug fixes, but the one after that (1.1). I hope you check out D$ in the meantime anyway.

Thanks for the feedback!
