Download Averages on AppStore GooglePlay Amazon B&N

I have read a bit on the forums on success on the AppStore vs Android Market, etc… It sounds like the AppStore is better odds of success. I was just wondering if so of the more experienced indies, who have marketed on at least 2 of the markets, could share some percentages of downloads (free/paid) on each market? Does it seem like paid, in-app-purchases, or add placements give you the best revenues? Has anyone found more success on Android Mkt or Amazon then on AppStore???
Thanks

I don’t have a lot of Android experience and so far have only published a couple of apps on the Marketplace (none on Amazon yet) - but I’ve found the App store out performs revenue regardless of ads in a free app or a paid app.

I can’t comment on IAP as I haven’t got any Android apps currently using them.

Just thought I’d post my 1.5 cents on this

Am also going to move this to Off Topic, it isn’t really about marketing and I think you will get more people see it there and hopefully more input from those who sell across all markets.

So far my sales on Amazon have been downright bad. My app is in the top 100 in its category on Google Play, and it has very good reviews (entirely 4 and 5 stars).
After the release of the Fire, I really expected it to pick up, but so far it’s still very slow. I’ve been very disappointed to find that I’m selling about 20 times as many copies on Google Play and Barnes & Noble combined than I am on Amazon. I’m reluctant to pay Amazon $99 per year to remain in the Appstore, when B&N charges me nothing, and sales are so much better there.
I recently sent email to Amazon developer services to explain my situation and ask about marketing opportunities. Today I got a reply that was fairly uninformative, telling me to submit a marketing proposal. What kind of proposal are they looking for? jdavid,

Thanks for your input. Very helpful. What is your app? Maybe I can check it out. [import]uid: 35148 topic_id: 25845 reply_id: 106055[/import]

It’s Yukon Gold Solitaire. Solitaire is a pretty crowded space, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised to have the app sell fairly well. [import]uid: 148631 topic_id: 25845 reply_id: 106089[/import]

It looks good. I like the choice of backgrounds. If you don’t mind, I just had a last follow up question

I see it listed as free, were your sales all in app purchases, ad clicks, or 99c sales initially? Have you dine better as free with IAP or ADS? How do you think you were able to even get any downloads if the ‘Solitaire field is so crowded’?

Thanks [import]uid: 35148 topic_id: 25845 reply_id: 106111[/import]

The main app is paid and is $1.99. The free demo version has fewer games and doesn’t allow you to change the card faces, background, etc. It does allow you to see all of the settings available in the paid version, but it just doesn’t save or use them (and there’s a message to that effect when you try).
One thing that may lead people to download my app is that I made it a selling point to have no ads and require no special permissions. There aren’t many other free solitaire apps that have no ads. That’s why I call it a demo version instead of just a free version. The intention is that people will use the demo to try it out, and then buy the paid version to get the additional games and settings. I haven’t so far done anything to track the conversion rate, which I think would be difficult with no permissions. [import]uid: 148631 topic_id: 25845 reply_id: 106115[/import]

Thanks!!
