Easiest way to shade a fill with a color?

I am creating some new rectangles and filling them each with a new image.

Is there a way to shade them with a color, kind of like adjusting the alpha of a layer when it has a colored layer behind it?  See the sample file attached.  The original is the center.  The top is an example of how it would look shaded black.  The bottom is and example of how it would look shaded white.

Any thoughts?

Anyone on this?  Is this not something that the Graphics 2.0 engine can do?

I’m almost positive you can use one of the G2.0 filters (or a combination of them using multi-pass) to achieve this. It appears like a mere adjustment of brightness/contrast, along with saturation perhaps?

Take care,
