Thank you for your suggestions. I will look at the other forum and may purchase the license but was afraid of doing so and then finding that I would not be able to do it myself. I’m still new to this. Jannie, the developer and I parted ways due to several issue but yes he essentially gave me the source code and an iOS build an APK. The iOS was an adHoc and the APK was signed as a debug so they were not uploadable.

Thank you for your parting comments…I often shy away from forums for that specific reason. A simple request (in this case a paid job) is met with a great deal of hostility. But I do appreciate your reply and to answer your question I am new to outsourcing/app development in general. After some negotiation I needed to end the relationship so I could move forward. We agreed on a final amount for him to get the app up and running and I thought he was giving me workable builds. Live and learn. I also totally understand your idea of Corona Labs losing out on licenses but how many people would actually go through the hassle of becoming adept developers and then always have to rely on someone else to compile for them…would be more cost effective to buy the license. I personally was looking to spend almost half the cost of the license just to get a workable build. Generally this is one of the least hostile and most helpful forums you will find.

I get that you’ve paid $2,000 and been left short-changed by your developer - but many developers on here will have spent much more than that developing their apps - and if not in terms of actual cash, then in terms of hundreds of hours of work. They then had to pay the license fee on top in order to build for the app stores, so you can see why some were a little put out by your request, even on this friendliest of boards!

Should you decide to purchase a license there are plenty of tutorials and forum posts available to help you through the process. If the source code is 100% ready to go it really will be a case of clicking a couple of buttons. [import]uid: 93133 topic_id: 36400 reply_id: 144698[/import]

I can say from personal experience that shifting certificates and permissions between computers and people is not a 5 minute deal, it takes time and effort (relatively speaking) - especially if one side is not a programmer (I am assuming you are not), because it isn’t just a case of A, B and C, you have to find and know what you are passing to the other person, and frankly you are then giving them access to your private apple certificates, which is also a bad idea (and possibly against the terms of the contract).

Put it this way. Pay once, spend 5 minutes learning (it really is that simple), and never have to worry about it again in the future. Consider it an investment for the future if you can’t see the immediate benefits.

I imagine the developer sent you those un-uploadable builds as a final F*** YOU. It happens.

Don’t get too down, it was also to be expected that people here would jump to the conclusion they did, rightly or wrongly. But if you buy it, you *will* find people willing to help you through the build process. The key thing for Android was really tricky, but 5 minutes in IRC and someone told me all I had to do and voila! You say you already have these, so basically you are set. The only thing I’d make sure of is what version of corona your developer used to create your app in - it can make a huge difference if you try a different one, so test, test and test! Buy the corona license
download all Apple stuff cert, provision profile …
install Teamviewer
then hire some one that builds your app on you computer using Teamviewer
while you watching

then you don’t give away any of your stuff and maybe you learn how do to it your self next time

even if you don’t write code its always good to have some control

I didn’t get the vibe he was trying to avoid $349. I was a developer for a solid 10 years before touching Corona - including a 4 year computer science degree from a good university in the US - and I was still slightly confused/overwhelmed the first time I had to build an app.

Also the ‘which version of Corona’ question is a really good point and an example of how he could wind up spending a lot of time on this. Depending on when this code was produced, an accomplished Corona developer might quickly realize that having a json.lua file is no longer necessary and might cause problems. how the hell are you going to fix that if you’re not a dev? I spent over $2000 on a Corona developer and he never delivered builds for me that I could use. I am now stuck with a completed app but no submittable builds (one is an adhoc and the Android was signed with a debugging key). We had to part ways. Someone suggested to me to check with Corona forum as there are always people ready for jobs. I guess I was wrong :frowning:
a) I hired a developer because I dont code
b) I have a need that only a Corona license holder can help me with and offered to pay (I did not post this on another forum to try and get it for free)
c) I could spend another $350 on top of the $2000 but would then have to learn how to use Corona and figure out the idiosyncrasies of compiling for iOS with iAPs and more. Or I thought I could hire someone to do it for me

So, spend $350 and several weeks trying to learn Corona to try and create my own builds or pay someone who could probably do this in less than an hour.

@SegaBoy, you are a peach . Because all I need is a license right…no training, no learning curve, I just buy the license and boom, I can be a pro just like that? Didint think it was that easy. If I had an issue with my AC, do I go and get certified as an HVAC specialist or do I hire someone with the certification who may be able to solve the problem quickly and efficiently?

My suggestion would be to search for a reputable app developer who caters to clients, or ask for such in the forums, and then check out their website etc. You have already been burned once, and to be honest doing business with people you meet in forums is pretty dicey.

You might do better to look in the Corona community page under partners. It seems there are several companies and organizations that could help you, or point you in the right direction:

You don’t have to learn corona for weeks. It is just a build button (you already had to set up your itunes account and android account yourself).
Also, people will have to install your certificate’s, create keychains for you etc. Most companies I know Start at 75 euro’s per hour. If nothing goes wrong, it will be around two hours setting stuff up checking etc.
That is not taking into account you want to test your IAP. Which adds more time.

You can choose the cheap route and hope they don’t publish your app under their own name on the google play store. Or add some malware.
Or take your code use parts of it for their own apps etc.

So many scenarios of things that can go wrong when you just ask random strangers to do this for you.

I’m normally a fairly placid chap…

So assuming that you’ve been screwed over by a developer I would question why you’ve paid all of this upfront before receiving the deliverable binary? Surely you’ve got a contract in place that puts you on a legal footing? I can understand paying some of the bill up front, but really it’s bad business practise if you’ve paid everything up front and not got what you want.

But can’t you see that it would be very easy for people to undermine Corona Labs’s efforts? Deceitful developers could easily download the free trial, create a game and then get somebody to build it for them - Corona doesn’t get it’s license fee and if taken to reductio ad absurd that would essentially force Corona out of business if everybody did the same thing? I, as a paying developer am not happy about that prospect.

As Juf Jannie has said you need to learn very little when it comes to the build process, there’s no coding whatsoever and Corona holds your hand through most of the process. However I do offer some sympathy if you have been left in this situation and can understand your request; I jumped off the handle because I assumed the latter situation.
