Emitters and Particles: What are Corona's intentions?

Hello,

I was just curious as to what Corona’s short-term and long-term intentions are regarding particles and emitters? Are you planning on continually adding more functionality over time?

I’m currently trying to justify whether I should migrate over to using Particle Designer and Corona’s implementation of emitters and particles (as opposed to Particle Candy).

As many people know, Particle Candy has many advanced features such as Physics particles, FX Fields, Emitter Shapes, and more (if anyone knows of any other advantages off the top of his/her head, it would be appreciated).

Anyways back to the question… Does Corona intend to continue adding new functionalities to it’s current implementation of particles and emitters. In other words, do you expect ongoing modifications and enhancements to your Particle features? If so, do you have any short-term or long-term goals regarding this library? Knowing such goals would be extremely valuable in helping me assess if I should switch to using Particle Designer.

Thank you!

Jeff

Hi Jeff.  I’ve not heard what our long term plans are (or even short term).  I’m sure we will add other features as we have engineering time to do so, but for now, if you need something more robust that our offering, you could consider other engines to drive your particles.

Corona’s implementation seems to be excellent. The downside is you really need 71Squared’s Particle Designer to make it work easily, though this is an excellent program,

Is it part of the core (i.e. written in C++ or something) or is it a lua float-on-top ?
