To me, it is the end of Corona SDK. The price just to use Admob is 200$ per year. The subscription model changes all the time. It is a big mess. We just are migrating all code to Unity3D and goodbye corona!
Good luck with unity
Have a look on price and you will understand that Corona is better.
If you need an advice don’t use unity ads incomes are 10 times less than with admod. (unity ads eCPM: 0.27usd ads of 30 sec without ability to skip them)
I’ve been making games since 1978. I tried to start with Unity before discovering Corona. Unity is a beast and difficult to learn, where as Corona is easy and with the plugins available, you can do most things. In Unity, your app is split between script files and your use of their GUI - imagine if Photoshop were to meet XCode. So, because some things are setup in the GUI, you can’t always search your script text files for everything that makes up your app. Sometimes, you’ll have to look into the GUI settings.
The only reason I’ve thought to move to Unity at all, WAS due to the ANR and crash rates of Corona. But Corona has resolved most of these.
Which is better for 2D apps? For games, I’ll always pick Corona hands-down.
Surely admob is free (if you use the 5% rev share) or have they removed that now?
Unity way more expensive for serious devs.
Not sure. I know how to make admob work w/o the paid plugin, so I assume that is the 5% rev share, but I haven’t used it recently in an app to verify it doesn’t trigger an ‘old admob version’ warning.
That is, I can integrate it and show test ads no problem, I just haven’t used it for real lately.
Also, what is the guy complaining about… There are all kinds of free ad networks here…
I really hate it when folks post stuff like this.
It is fine to be unhappy, and you can express your unhappiness by engaging others via the forums and asking questions or posing ideas for improvement.
On the other hand, making posts with the title “End Of Corona” is juvenile and scares the reactionary and new users. This only serves the need of a single individual to vent.
Corona is an awesome and easy to use SDK with plenty of ways to monetize and a fair payment model for the premium ad networks.
I’m wondering why there are app frameworks in the Marketplace that require Unity (Jelly Garden, Unblock Me, Angry Bunnies) or BuildBox (Build Block, Gate Break). Some newbie might purchase these not aware they have nothing to do with Corona. Is this the future of the Marketplace - selling non-Corona stuff?
@lessmsios Ugh… why did you raise this thread.
