Evaluating Corona, a few questions.

Hi everyone,

sorry to come up with a general question like this (couldn’t find anything through forum search).

I’ve decided after a long period to go indy. The timing seems quite perfect!

I’m re-evaluating Corona (had a brief experience a little back) and I see that there has been a tremendous progress here. I have two question that will hopefully help me decide in my future:

  • Is ever going to be a player app to install on device so that testing can be done directly on it? The simulator is great but for things like multitouch or accelerometer testing on device is a must and this would help the break in workflow caused by having to build in the cloud.

  • A while back desktop deployment was mentioned but it probably lost priority. Is this still in the roadmap or definitely not? What about other platforms like BB and WIndows 8?

Thanks a lot.

Hi there, if you were asking if you can test your apps on a device the answer is yes you can test Corona apps on your iPhone/iPad/Android.

As for BB and Windows 8 they are not supported.  Not enough market share there yet.

Not sure what you mean about desktop deployment.

Hi, thanks for the answer.

My question for testing was more a workflow related. To test on device I have to create a build and then copy it to my device via iTunes. Am I correct? I was looking for something where this happens automatically.

About desktop deployment I was refferring to the ability of creating Mac/Windows/Linux games using Corona SDK.

Thanks,

Gianmichele

Once the build is complete you can drag the .app file over to the device in xCode (go to Windows -> Organizer -> Select “Applications” under the device in question).  It is considerably faster than iTunes I think.

I just timed it, takes 40 seconds for my app from hitting build to launching on device.
