Export Corona SDK games to Mac/PC?

Hello everyone,

I am wondering if there is any planned support of exporting games to Mac and PC?

Many other lua game engines have this feature, and I would love to use Corona to develop PC games as well.

Thank you in advance.

^+1 on this, will love to see this happen.

Corona Labs would love to do this, but building for new platforms takes considerably more engineering time than we have available.  I know it feels like with the simulator we are close, but there are many things that would have to be added to produce them.  So the official answer is not at this time, but we will consider it when we can.

Thanks for the reply Rob, I’ve been using Corona for more than a year now and I love it. Definitely want to use Corona for PC game, hope one day this becomes a reality.

I thought it was officially “coming soon”, or has this changed?

If we ever said “coming soon” it was a long time ago.  I know at one point before I came on board, it was in the Road Map, but that was a couple of years ago, but ever since I’ve been here it’s been “We want to, but for now the focus in on mobile”.

I remember Windows 8 Store being mentioned but maybe not the Mac App Store. Although thinking about it the OP was probably alluding to vanilla .exe / .dmg support which I think was a no no sadly as that would be amazing.

Windows 8 Phone is coming along nicely and should go into open beta soon.  There are already several apps in the Windows 8 Phone store by our closed beta testers.  Windows 8 Phone for now is built on Corona Cards.  It’s going to take more engineering to bring it to the SDK product.   This initial build is going to be for Windows 8 Phone only.  I believe the plan is to eventually support the RT based tablets.  This is because currently Microsoft doesn’t support Universal builds that will span their phones and tablets.

We are not considering x86 .exe builds at this time.

OK thanks for the update!

While I have you here, what is the status of the Building for Web stuff? We would have loved to have been on the Beta for that to see if we could get Forever Lost in the browser but sadly missed out. Is web still a thing that is happening?

The HTML stuff is something that we want to get done, but little things like all the Apple changes and Google changes are requiring more engineering efforts which is taking away from finishing HTML.  I know we want to get that out, but it’s kind of on hold until we can put engineering resources to it.

OK cool, glad it’s something that’s still happening even if it’s been delayed. Totally understandable.

We really love working with Corona and absolutely don’t want to switch away, it’s just really unfortunate sometimes to be limited to just iOS and Android.

We also love Corona, is working really great for us and we’ll definitely love to see it become something bigger and better. Keep up the good work!

I totally agreed…
