Facebook unable to retrive iPhone Store ID?

Hi all,

I’m attempting to integrate an app I’m working on with Facebook.

On the facebook developer app “basic” page I attempt to add iOS to the app and keep getting the following errors for both iPhone and iPad Store IDs:

"We were unable to retrieve your iPad Store ID from the iTunes App Store. Please double-check your ID and try again later."

The funny thing is that I have set up a different app with Facebook and it works fine (the other app is not published, it is also “Waiting for upload” status). I can’t determine any substantive difference between my two apps.

Any ideas what I can do so that Facebook can get visibility of my iPhone/iPad Store ID?

This is starting to be demoralizing because once I can verify FB integration works, I’m ready to submit!

Thanks

PS - the backstory on this is that basically I’ve decided to go with a different App name late in development so I’m just setting up a new app in iTunes Connect so that I can use the new name I’d like (I hope I didn’t miss an easier way to do that!)

You can use any valid app store app ID there.  Generally you put something for a live app there until your real app is live in the app store.  Facebook uses it to drive clicks to the right place in iTunes.

Hi Rob,

Thanks for the input.

I guess what’s crazy for me is that I am using a valid app store ID and facebook gives me that error… not sure what to do…

I guess just publish the app and hope it works then? That would make sense except that I have the other app that is also in “waiting for upload” status and that one’s app ID works out fine with Facebook. Can’t figure why one app’s ID works fine while the other app’s ID doesn’t…

On your recommendation that I could use any valid app store ID, I’ve attempted using the first app’s ID (the one that does work on the other FB app I’ve set up) and that also gets the:

"We were unable to retrieve your iPad Store ID from the iTunes App Store. Please double-check your ID and try again later."

I can’t identify any differences between the way the two Facebook Apps are set up…

I guess next step is to set up another FB app and see if I can get that to work?

This thread on stackoverflow from two days ago seems to be someone with the same problem I’m having:

http://stackoverflow.com/questions/21522735/facebook-app-iphone-app-store-id-not-working

The solution accepted is to leave the iPhone/iPad store ID blank. That does let me save the the iOS portion of the basic app information but what good is this without the app store IDs?

The accepted solution states " Remember :  You cannot add any existing app id into your facebook account because that app has already registered that ID for thier own FB account"

…what does that mean? When I set up the app it already registered an ID with Facebook? Is this a new feature? That wasn’t the case with the first app I set up during the later part of last year.

I just signed up for StackOverflow so I don’t have enough “reputation” to add a comment…

Im having the same issue, I am using a valid app store ID and facebook gives me the error:

  • “We were unable to retrieve your iPhone Store ID from the iTunes App Store. Please double-check your ID and try again later.”

Any advices?

Roy.

You have to either leave it blank until your app goes live on iTunes.  You can also use the AppID of another app if you need to test things.

Rob

So Rob, you say that this is happening because the app is not live? and once it goes live it will accept it?

Roy.

Facebook looks up information about your app by going to it’s “web page” using the iTunes connect ID.  However, your app won’t show up there until its live.
