Forum etiquette for replies

Consider the case where there is a request for code help and someone posts a reply that they have “a plugin for sale in the marketplace”.

If I would want to reply to the op with a possible solution, that would be stepping on the “marketplace” posters shoes and may spoil a possible sale.

What is the etiquette?

If you feel you have a solution that can help, feel free to answer.

Never worry about spoiling someone’s sale (including me).

Example

Today, I posted about a new set of starer kits.

I then noticed this post: https://forums.coronalabs.com/topic/73259-highlight-letters-on-touch/

I didn’t have the time or inclination (today) to post a free solution as I often do (between 400 and 500 full code answers in AskEd subfolder).  But, I did think it worth the time to cross-link to my announcement post.

Having said all that, if you were to have an answer for the OP and wanted to share it, please do.  I’m totally cool with that.

Ok thanks.

You are by far the most frequent poster I see here.  That is to your credit.

In other forums I have learned a lot by answering and then being corrected by people more skilled than me.

@sidermaniac that’s a really great question. I don’t know that it’s been discussed before. Feel free to post your solution.

I think that if the original poster has made a valid attempt at it and shows some code then there is room in the thread for both the marketplace and for contributor solutions.

If the question is more vague or open ended like “how do I make an rpg inventory system?”  and someone replies with a marketplace solution then there is no real need to post code solutions on top of that.

Its going to be a situational call.
