FreeAppaDay.com

Just wanted to wrap up my experiences with FreeAppaDay.com, may it help you: They’re not cheap at all, but for my iPad game Ogs, it pushed the game into the iPad top 21 games for that day, and caused quite a few downloads. (And I never switched the app back to paid since then, actually.)

Note I’m not associated with that site.

Oh, any competition to them which is worth checking out? [import]uid: 10284 topic_id: 6910 reply_id: 306910[/import]

They’re not cheap at all

You have to pay to be listed there? Sounds scammy. [import]uid: 12108 topic_id: 6910 reply_id: 24549[/import]

@Philipp - Care to share how many downloads are “quite a few downloads”? :slight_smile: Just wondered if we are talking hundreds or thousands [import]uid: 7863 topic_id: 6910 reply_id: 24611[/import]

I’m not sure of the exact numbers but I believe it was something in the range of 20,000+ downloads for my free app for $1000+ costs. Note they require your app to have been paid before. It’s like buying advertising, I would not call it a scam… unless they would promise their readers to be neutral or a review site, but I didn’t see that they do… [import]uid: 10284 topic_id: 6910 reply_id: 24616[/import]

@Philipp,
WOW!! I am surprised unless you hit it big like Angry Birds, if paying $1000 + costs is really a very helpful thing to do. But then you might see value in it. some of us might not. Hope it worked for you and you recovered it all back.

If you or anyone wants their app reviewed, please get in touch with us on reviewme@oz-apps.com, wish we had a similar business model of $1000 + costs, but we don’t.

Yeah, I paid this much because I sort of considered it my advertising budget for all my games combined, as I’m creating multiple ones… the idea was not to advertise every game, but only try it once and then hope the other games get more traction through the first game. But it was also an experiment. A competing company – AppMagenta.com – had a similarly high price, and what they did is offer you a guaranteed top 25 charts position or your money back. I haven’t tried them yet.

By the way, before investing in the ad campaign I had written to around 50 review blogs and had tried to get the word out this way, but response wasn’t high, and download numbers (back then, with my app Ogs at $0.99) kind of stalled. I suppose review blogs are flooded with a huge number of apps to review, and have growing queues of unreviewed, so I guess it’s really understandable… [import]uid: 10284 topic_id: 6910 reply_id: 24635[/import]

Hi Philipp,
How many days your game stay in top 25 ipad games after one day free with faad? [import]uid: 9190 topic_id: 6910 reply_id: 29760[/import]

Khanh, I’m sorry, I don’t precisely recollect. Faad asks you to put your game back to paid after some days, though I kept it free for almost another year afterwards because I was happy with the original free-version download numbers (especially in comparison with the original paid-version download numbers). I suppose it could have been there for some days, though I don’t think it was very long. [import]uid: 10284 topic_id: 6910 reply_id: 29801[/import]
