From The Blog: Legacy AdMob plugin to be removed March 1, 2017

We have set a date for the removal of the legacy AdMob plugin: on March 1, 2017 , the AdMob V2 plugin , accessible under the namespace plugin.google.play.services, will be officially retired and it will become unavailable for new Corona SDK and Corona Enterprise builds.

You should begin migrating all apps which use the legacy AdMob plugin over to the updated AdMob plugin, or alternatively explore other monetization solutions. Note that your apps currently available in various app marketplaces will continue to serve ads — this only impacts new builds and updates starting on March 1.

The updated AdMob plugin is available for $199/year in the Corona Marketplace. It is also bundled as part of the Corona Professional Bundle for $699/year which includes AdMobChartboost, AdColony, Unity Ads, and the Corona Splash Screen Control.

Please join us in the Corona forums to discuss these changes.

I don’t quite understand what does this mean. If we were to continue to build our project using the earlier builds, will we still be able to access the legacy Admob plugin?

On March 1, we are going to remove the plugin. If you want to continue to use AdMob in new apps or updates to existing ones, you will have to subscribe to the paid plugin, update to build 3005 or later.

If you build with a build older than 3005, you will not be able to access AdMob.

What about Enterprise users, will they get the plugin included in the plugin zip archive?

Also, if I am an enterprise user and want to use Corona SDK for a project, will I have access to the admob plugin or will I have to additionally purchase it?

Enterprise subscribers must still purchase the plugins, at which point, I think we can make the libraries available to you.

Dear Rob

  1. What is the point of Enterprise then - only that we can write our own code and build native?

  2. Now that you are charging for plugins separately, does it means that it will be updated more regularly - for e.g. the Admob plugin?

You were using outdated version of Google Play Services in the Admob plugin and updated very late!

  1. How many times the Corona will change its policies and pricing? Its like every year theres a new direction of the Company.

Well, I am sure you have your reasons - but at least let the old users stay the same way.

It’s becoming a serious concern I think.

Corona is amazing - simple and fast - but over the years there hasnt been that much improvement and only changes in company direction - add new features and make them chargeable and update existing plugins more regularly - and it works for everyone - win win situation.

  1. Enterprise has many features that go beyond what you can do with Corona SDK. This includes the ability to include native features in your Corona SDK app; the ability to make plugins; offline builds and more. You can include 3rd party SDK’s that we don’t have plugins for as well.

  2. We are committed to keeping the plugins up to date.

  3. We are a business in an ever changing landscape and we have to remain nimble to react to those changes. We don’t change our pricing just for the fun of it. We know you and the rest of our customer base do not like changes in the business model and we do work to minimize it, but I can’t say we won’t change it in the future. We have to do the things we need to do so that we can keep Corona SDK the best 2D framework available.

Just one more clarification Rob

When I bought the Enterprise version, it had the plugins included in it.

So the plugins will have to be bought by me after the license expires later this year and I renew it right?

I hope you dont mean that what I paid for can change in between.

thank you,

Rajat
